Relational art or relational aesthetics is a mode or tendency in fine art practice originally observed and highlighted by French art critic Nicolas Bourriaud. Bourriaud defined the approach as "a set of artistic practices which take as their theoretical and practical point of departure the whole of human relations and their social context, rather than an independent and private space." The artist can be more accurately viewed as the "catalyst" in relational art, rather than being at the centre.

She was Edith Kreeger Wolf Distinguished Visiting Professor in Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University (2013-2019). She is the recipient of the 2019 Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence.
dOCUMENTA (13) was the thirteenth edition of the quinquennial contemporary art exhibition documenta. It took place between 9 June until 16 September 2012 in Kassel, Germany. The exhibition was held under the theme Collapse and Recovery. Exhibits could be seen in several venues in the city, among others in the Fridericianum museum, in the Orangerie and in the Karlsaue, a large urban park.
Massimiliano Gioni is an Italian curator and contemporary art critic based in New York City, and artistic director at the New Museum. He is the artistic director of the Nicola Trussardi Foundation in Milan as well as the artistic director of the Beatrice Trussardi Foundation. Gioni was the curator of the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013.
Catherine David is a French art historian, curator and museum director. David was the first woman and the first non-German speaker to curate documenta X in Kassel, Germany. David is currently deputy director of the National Museum of Modern Art at the Centre Georges Pompidou. She was born and lives in Paris.
Hannah Ryggen, born Hannah Jönsson, was a Swedish-born Norwegian textile artist. Self-trained, she worked on a standing loom constructed by her husband, the painter Hans Ryggen. She lived on a farm on a Norwegian Fjord and dyed her yarn with local plants.
Moon Kyungwon is a Seoul-based artist who received her Masters of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and Ph.D in Visual Communication from Yonsei University, South Korea. Moon held her solo exhibition at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in 2004. Her recent exhibitions include Poiesis of Collective Intelligence at Yamaguchi Center Arts and Media in 2013 and A Different Similarity at BOCUM Museum, Germany in 2010. In 2012, Moon and a fellow artist, Jeon Joonho, participated in Documenta (13) in Kassel, Germany and collectively received the 2012 Noon Award Grand Prize and 2012 Korea Artist Prize at Gwangju Biennale. In 2013, the two artists put on a large-scale exhibition called News from Nowhere at the Sullivan Galleries inside the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Curated by Sook-Kyung Lee from Tate Modern, Moon Kyungwon and Jeon Joonho were selected to showcase their collaborative video installation, The Ways of Folding Space and Flying at the Korean Pavilion for 2015 Venice Biennale. Moon currently works and resides in Seoul, South Korea and teaches at the College of Art and Design, Ewha Womans University

Ahmady is New York based and was born and raised in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Virginia L. Montgomery, also known as VLM, is an American multimedia artist working in video art, sound art, sculpture, performance, and illustration. She has exhibited extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe at museums, galleries, and film festivals. Her artwork is known for its surrealist qualities, material experimentation, and thematic blending of science, mysticism, metaphysics, and 21st century feminist autobiography.
Gabi Ngcobo is a South African curator, artist and educator. Currently she is the Curatorial Director at the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria (Javett-UP).
