Politics of Bangladesh takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic,whereby the Prime Minister of Bangladesh is the head of government,and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The Constitution of Bangladesh was written in 1972 and has undergone seventeen amendments.

Founded on 1 September 1978 by the late Bangladeshi president Ziaur Rahman,with a view of uniting people with a nationalist ideology,BNP later came out as one of the two most dominant parties in Bangladesh,along with its archrival Awami League. Initially being a big tent centrist party,it moved towards more right-wing politics later.

The Jatiya Party is a centre-right,conservative,nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad,against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Begum Rowshan Ershad. On 3 January 2019,the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However,the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently,it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations.
The Agartala Conspiracy Case was a sedition case in Pakistan during the rule of Ayub Khan against Awami League,brought by the government of Pakistan in 1968 against Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,the then leader of the Awami League and East Pakistan,and 34 other people.
Mohammad Saifur Rahman was a Bangladeshi economist and politician. He was a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the longest-serving Finance Minister of Bangladesh. He delivered 12 national budgets in three terms between 1980 and 1981,1991–1996 and 2001–2006 over a ministerial life spanning from December 1976 until October 2006 in three different governments. He was Trade &Commerce Minister for the first three years,and thereafter Finance and Planning Minister for 12 years.
Fazlul Quader Chowdhury was a Bengali politician who served as the 5th speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan from East Pakistan. He belonged to Ayub Khan's Convention Muslim League. He was also the Acting President of Pakistan from time to time when Ayub Khan left the country. His elder brother Fazlul Kabir Chowdhury was the leader of the opposition in East Pakistan assembly. Quader was preceded by Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan of Awami League.
Amena Begum,a former Member of Parliament of East Pakistan,was a Bangladeshi politician. She was instrumental in campaigning all over East Pakistan for the Six Point program of regional autonomy drafted by the Awami League,and on June 7,1966,organized the general strike along with Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury. This strike was observed throughout the then East Pakistan and was the first major indication that an independent Bangladesh was imminent. She later took over as president of the Jatiya League. She died in Dhaka on 7 April 1989.

He was a Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Chittagong-9 constituency at the 10th Jatiya Sangsad and the Chittagong-6 constituency at the 4th Jatiya Sangsad. He served as the Cabinet Minister for Energy during Ershad's regime in the 1980s. He was appointed an advisor to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in November 2013.
Sarbadaliya Chhatra Sangram Parishad was a student organisation that was formed to demand autonomy of East Pakistan and the removal of Ayub Khan from power. It also called for the restoration of democracy in 1969.
Bazlur Rahman was a Bangladeshi writer and journalist. He was awarded Independence Day Award in journalism by the Government of Bangladesh in 2012 posthumously.
