Medical Independent is a medical newspaper aimed at Healthcare Professionals in Ireland with 30 issues annually. [1] It was established in 2010 and aims to investigate and analyse the major issues affecting healthcare in Ireland. [2] The newspaper has received a number of awards and accolades for its investigative journalism. [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] The current editor of Medical Independent is Paul Mulholland. The news editor is Catherine Reilly. The news team also includes investigative reporter, David Lynch. Medical Independent is one of a number of publications published by GreenCross Publishing which is owned by Graham Cooke. [18] The Dublin-based publishing house also publishes medicalindependent.ie, a breaking news site aimed at Irish doctors, healthcare professionals and the wider public with an interest in the healthcare sector and medilearning.ie, an online continuing professional development site for Irish doctors and healthcare professionals (www.medilearning.ie). It also publishes Irish Pharmacist, an independent, monthly publication aimed at pharmacists in Ireland; Pharmacy Assistant incorporating Pharmacy Technician, a quarterly publication aimed at pharmacy assistants and technicians and Nursing in General Practice, a bi-monthly publication aimed at nurses.

The British National Formulary (BNF) is a United Kingdom (UK) pharmaceutical reference book that contains a wide spectrum of information and advice on prescribing and pharmacology, along with specific facts and details about many medicines available on the UK National Health Service (NHS). Information within the BNF includes indication(s), contraindications, side effects, doses, legal classification, names and prices of available proprietary and generic formulations, and any other notable points. Though it is a national formulary, it nevertheless also includes entries for some medicines which are not available under the NHS, and must be prescribed and/or purchased privately. A symbol clearly denotes such drugs in their entry.

Pharmacy is the clinical health science that links medical science with chemistry and it is charged with the discovery, production, disposal, safe and effective use, and control of medications and drugs. The practice of pharmacy requires excellent knowledge of drugs, their mechanism of action, side effects, interactions, mobility and toxicity. At the same time, it requires knowledge of treatment and understanding of the pathological process. Some specialties of pharmacists, such as that of clinical pharmacists, require other skills, e.g. knowledge about the acquisition and evaluation of physical and laboratory data.

A Doctor of Pharmacy is a professional doctorate in pharmacy. In some countries, it is a first professional degree and a prerequisite for licensing to practice the profession of pharmacy or to become a clinical pharmacist. A PharmD program has significant experiential or clinical education components in introductory and advanced levels for the safe and effective use of drugs. Experiential education prepares graduates to be practice-ready, as they already have spent a significant amount of time training in areas of direct patient care and research.

The Master of Sciences of Pharmacy (MPharm) is the standard master's degree program in Pharmacy. It is the oldest honorable Diploma (Degree) authorized from the European Faculties of Pharmacy as it takes five years to complete. It is based on a credit system higher than the normal Bachelor of Pharmacy degree. It is different from the American Pharmaceutical Diploma, Doctor of Pharmacy,(PharmD), that takes 4 years to complete. The Faculty is a member of the Association of European Faculties of Pharmacy and its graduates meet all the requirements for the profession as defined by the European Union. In the initial three years students revise and broaden their knowledge of elementary natural and medical subjects to the level required for understanding specific subjects from the field of Pharmacy. Students attend lectures and seminars and take part in practical pharmacy placements. During the last year of study they work on their thesis. The program is concluded by defending the thesis and taking the final state examination. Then the students are awarded the master's degree. The study program is compliant with EU directive 2005/36/EC. Graduates awarded the master's degree can later sit for a thorough state exam including an advanced thesis defense. After passing they are awarded the "Testing Board" degree. Graduates can apply for postgraduate after studying several branches of Pharmacy in the five accredited years. After defending their dissertation, submit their researches in their selected branches of Pharmacy and passing the final state examination they are awarded the degree. The master's program is offered in different specialized areas, one major being Clinical Pharmacy. Clinical pharmacy specialization enables pharmacists to deliver higher levels of clinical services. In some countries these specializations are happening with residency programs.

American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is a professional organization that represents pharmacists who serve as patient care providers in hospitals, health systems, ambulatory clinics, and other healthcare settings. The organization's nearly 58,000 members include pharmacists, student pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians. ASHP maintains a national database on U.S. drug shortages that is published on their website.

A health professional , healthcare professional, or healthcare worker is a provider of health care treatment and advice based on formal training and experience. The field includes those who work as a nurse, physician, physician assistant, registered dietitian, veterinarian, veterinary technician, optometrist, pharmacist, pharmacy technician, medical assistant, physical therapist, occupational therapist, dentist, midwife, psychologist, or who perform services in allied health professions. Experts in public health and community health are also health professionals.

James Reilly (Irish politician)

James Reilly is an Irish former Fine Gael politician, businessman and medical doctor. Between the February 2016 general election and the 6 May 2016 formation of a new government, he was the Acting Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, having held that ministry since July 2014 in the previous government, and was also deputy leader of Fine Gael from 2010 to 2017. He was the Minister for Health from March 2011 to July 2014. Reilly was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin North constituency since the 2007 general election until he lost his seat in the 2016 general election. Reilly was a member of Seanad Éireann from May 2016 to March 2020, after being nominated by then Taoiseach, Enda Kenny. Reilly subsequently announced his retirement from politics after he lost his bid for election for his old seat at the 2020 general election.

Rose Anne Kenny is an Irish geriatrician. She is a professor of Medical Gerontology at Trinity College Dublin (TCD), director of the Falls and Black-out Unit at St James' Hospital Dublin, director of the Mercer's Institute for Successful Ageing and founding principal investigator for the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA). She was admitted in 2014 to the Royal Irish Academy, the highest academic honour available in Ireland, in recognition of academic excellence and achievement. Kenny is a fellow of Trinity College Dublin and of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland, London and Edinburgh.
