Mel Lewinter is an American music industry executive. He is executive vice president of label strategy at Sony Music Entertainment.
Lewinter has held several important positions within the music industry, working at Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and now Sony Music Entertainment. He served as vice chairman of the Atlantic Group. Lewinter also served in high-ranking positions at Warner Music Group. He was executive vice president of their US division and also served as the chief operating officer of Warner Music Group.
Lewinter was also vice chairman of MCA Music Entertainment Group. More recently he served as chairman and CEO of Universal Motown and then became chairman and CEO of Universal Motown Republic Group.
He is the executive vice president of label strategy at Sony Music Entertainment. Doug Morris announced that he had appointed to this position in October 2011. [1]

In May 2011, the sale of WMG was announced; Bronfman would continue as CEO in the transaction. In August 2011, he became Chairman of the company as Stephen Cooper became CEO. Bronfman previously served as CEO of Seagram and vice-chairman of Vivendi Universal. Bronfman Jr. expanded and later divested ownership of the Seagram Company, and also worked as a Broadway and film producer, and songwriter under the pseudonyms Junior Miles and Sam Roman.
The Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJMG) was an American recording music unit, formed on New Year's Eve 1998 by Universal Music Group. It consists of labels created under the basic operations of Island Records and Def Jam Recordings. On April 1, 2014, Universal Music Group publicly announced the disbandment of the Island Def Jam Music Group, leaving IDJMG and its affiliated subsidiaries as separate sister labels.
