The Miami Sting were a professional indoor football team based in Coral Gables, Florida. The Sting was to play its home games at the BankUnited Center on the campus of the University of Miami in Coral Gables. The Sting folded just before the 2013 season began.

The Sting were the fourth indoor/arena football team to call South Florida home, following the Miami Hooters of the Arena Football League (1993-1995), their relocated form the Florida Bobcats (1996-2001), the Miami Morays of the National Indoor Football League (2005 National Indoor Football League season), and their relocated form the Florida Frenzy (2006), and the Miami Vice Squad (which only played a portion of the 2007 NIFL season before they were suspended and the league folded).

The Sting were originally created to replace the Saginaw Sting, who had left the league to re-join the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL). [1] The Sting had an agreement to host games at Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, as well as other cities throughout Western Pennsylvania. On November 30, 2011, they announced that they would be coached by Paul Pennington. [2]

Pennington, his staff, and all signed players resigned after the sale of the team to Jeff Bollinger a Pittsburgh Businessman, after which the Sting were coached by Bollinger, Jeff Hether and Bill Miller during the 2012 season.

The Sting finished their inaugural season with an 0–7 record, last place in the Northern Conference.

2013

The franchise moved to Coral Gables, Florida for the 2013 season, to be known as the Miami Sting. [3] The Sting will play their home games at the BankUnited Center, on the campus of the University of Miami. [3] The franchise named former head coach of the Ontario Warriors, Keith Evans, as their head coach in October 2012. [4]

The Cincinnati Commandos were a professional indoor football team based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The team suspended operations for the 2013 season, with hope of returning in 2014. They began play in 2010 as an expansion team in the Continental Indoor Football League before moving to the United Indoor Football League in 2012. The Commandos then left the UIFL after winning Ultimate Bowl II and re-joined the CIFL, but never took the field after its announcement. The Commandos were the fifth arena or indoor football in Cincinnati, after the Cincinnati Rockers, Cincinnati Swarm, Cincinnati Marshals, and Cincinnati Jungle Kats. The owners of the Commandos are Dennis Whitman and Paul Napier. The Commandos played their home games at Cincinnati Gardens.

The Tarpons joined the X-League Indoor Football (X-League) during the 2015 season when the UIFL merged with the X-League. For 2019, there was an ownership transition that formed their own Florida-based league, called the A-League, and the team rebranded as the Lakeland Tarpons. The River Monsters began play as a charter member of the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) for its inaugural 2011 season spending one season in the UIFL before reaching an agreement with league management to leave. After a two-year hiatus, the River Monsters returned in 2014 as a member of the South Division of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL). The River Monsters played their home games at The Bank of Kentucky Center. On June 6, 2011, it was announced that the UIFL and the River Monsters mutually agreed to part ways, leaving the team free to join another league. However, the UIFL had a lease agreement with the arena, which hampered the likelihood the River Monsters would play in Highland Heights in 2012. The team had been mentioned as a charter member Stadius Football Association in 2012, but that league never got off the ground. The team suspended operations on October 1, 2014.

The 2012 Cincinnati Commandos season was the 3rd season for the franchise, and their first as a member of the Northern Conference of the United Indoor Football League (UIFL).

The Miami Inferno was a professional indoor football team which was a member of the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL). Based in Coral Gables, Florida, the Inferno played some of their home games at the BankUnited Center on the campus of the University of Miami. They were the latest indoor/arena football team to play in the Miami area after the Miami Hooters Florida Bobcats of the Arena Football League, who played from 1993 to 2001. Cade Kretuer, son of Chad Kreuter was made back up QB prior to the start of the 2014 season. The Inferno were owned by Chad and Amber Dittman. The UIFL suspended the Miami Inferno on July 12, 2014. All remaining games of the 2014 season were forfeited.

The 2012 Western Pennsylvania Sting season was the first season and only season for the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) franchise.

The 2013 Ultimate Indoor Football League season was the third season of the league. The league contracted down to just 6 teams.
