Middlesex College is an academic building located on the campus of the University of Western Ontario. The building is known for its collegiate gothic architecture, spire, and clock tower. It currently houses the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. [1]
Along with University College, the building is one of the most iconic buildings on the University of Western Ontario campus and is heavily used in promotion of the university.
The cornerstone for the building was installed in 1959 and the building cost was $1.74 million. [2] Construction was completed by general contractors Ellis-Don Ltd. [3] The building was opened in the fall of 1960. The Department of History was the first faculty housed in the building at this time. [4]
The large clock tower houses five 8-foot diameter bells that each weigh 400lbs which are tuned to E, B, E, F and G#. The bells were manufactured by Gillett and Johnston. [5] First installed with the clock faces in 1960, the bells were decommissioned in 2007 due to high refurbishment costs.
Sather Tower is a bell tower with clocks on its four faces on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. It is more commonly known as The Campanile for its resemblance to the Campanile di San Marco in Venice. It is a recognizable symbol of the university.

Gillett & Johnston was a clockmaker and bell foundry based in Croydon, England from 1844 until 1957. Between 1844 and 1950, over 14,000 tower clocks were made at the works. The company's most successful and prominent period of activity as a bellfounder was in the 1920s and 1930s, when it was responsible for supplying many important bells and carillons for sites across Britain and around the world.
King's University College is an affiliated university college of the University of Western Ontario located in London, Ontario, Canada. It is a Roman Catholic, co-educational, liberal arts college. Originally named Christ the King College, the school was founded to provide the all-male seminary with education in the liberal arts. The school was founded in 1954 and first began holding classes in 1955. King's is the largest affiliated college of the University of Western Ontario and enrolls 3,500 students.
McGraw Tower is a clock tower located on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The tower was known as Library Tower when it was first built but was renamed in 1961 in honor of either John McGraw, one of Cornell's original donors, or his daughter Jennie McGraw, the philanthropist in whose honor the tower and its adjacent library were originally commissioned by Henry W. The Campus of the University of Southern California, also known as the University Park Campus is located in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The University Park campus is in the University Park district of Los Angeles, 2 miles (3.2 km) southwest of downtown Los Angeles. Since the 1960s, through-campus vehicle traffic has been either severely restricted or entirely prohibited on some thoroughfares. Most buildings are in the Romanesque Revival style, although some dormitories, engineering buildings, and physical sciences labs are of various Modernist styles that sharply contrast with the predominantly red-brick campus. Widney Alumni House, built-in 1880, is the oldest university building in Southern California. In recent years the campus has been renovated to remove the vestiges of old roads and replace them with traditional university quads and gardens. The historic portion of the main campus was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.
Old Main is the main academic building at Washington & Jefferson College. It is the predominant building on campus and has served virtually every student since its construction. Its two identical towers, added in 1875, symbolize the union of Washington College and Jefferson College to form Washington & Jefferson College. The towers appear on the College seal, in a stylized version. The College fundraising operation founded "The Old Main Society" in 1996 to recognize individuals who utilize planned giving.
Thompson Hall, commonly referred to locally as "T-Hall", is one of the central buildings on the campus of the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire, United States. A large brick and stone building, it was designed by Concord architects Dow & Randlett and built in 1892. It was the first building to be built on the Durham campus, and was named for Benjamin Thompson, a farmer who left his entire Durham estate to the state for use as the college campus. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The North Carolina State University Memorial Belltower is a 115-foot-tall (35 m) free-standing bell tower on the Main Campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina Conceived as a war memorial to honor university alumni killed in World War I and the university's overall participation in the conflict, the Belltower now serves as a perpetual memorial for N.C. State students and alumni who gave their lives in the service of the nation. A prominent university symbol, the tower is a popular rallying point for the campus community.
The Physics and Astronomy Building, historically known as the Science Building, is an academic building of the University of Western Ontario on its main campus in London, Ontario. The building was the one of two erected on the present campus site in 1922, with the other building being University College. The design is a good example of collegiate gothic architecture and its early use on the university campus and in the London area. In 2012, the building was renovated and awarded LEED Silver certification. It currently houses the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
