The Milton Keynes Citizen is the only freely distributed local newspaper in Milton Keynes. The newspaper is owned by National World. [3] [4]

The MK Citizen was founded by Bill Alder and Jerry West on 1 October[ citation needed ] 1981 [5] and they sold to EMAP in 1987[ citation needed ] and the purchase was completed in April 1990. EMAP sold the paper to Johnston Publishing in the 1990s.[ citation needed ] The newspaper had a circulation of 95,464 in 2000 [6] and 97,714 in 2010. [7]

Distribution

The Milton Keynes Citizen is distributed freely across the City of Milton Keynes unitary authority area on Thursdays.

There was formerly a more limited circulation Tuesday sister paper, Citizen First which was distributed on Tuesdays (this was formerly the Citizen on Sunday but changed when MK News launched on Wednesdays). This is no longer published.[ citation needed ]

The paper's main print competitor was the MK News ,[ citation needed ] part of LSN Media Ltd., which closed in October 2016. [8]

The name Milton Keynes City Football Club currently refers to a grassroots youth and adult football club based in Milton Keynes. It also refers to two defunct English football clubs, both of which were non-League sides based in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The first, Bletchley Town FC, changed its name to Milton Keynes City in 1974, and used the name until its dissolution in 1985. The second, originally called Mercedes-Benz, became MK City in 1998, and retained the name until its own demise in 2003, coinciding with the relocation of Wimbledon F.C. to Milton Keynes.

The company was operating around 200 newspapers and associated websites around the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man when it went into administration and was the purchased by JPIMedia in 2018. The Falkirk Herald was the company's first acquisition in 1846. Johnston Press's assets were transferred to JPIMedia in 2018, who continued to publish its titles.

The Times & Citizen is a free local newspaper published on Thursdays in Bedford, Bedfordshire, England. The newspaper is distributed all over the Borough of Bedford and much of Mid Bedfordshire. Current circulation is around 31,000.

The Lynn News is an English newspaper published by Iliffe Media and appearing each Tuesday and Friday in King's Lynn, Norfolk, England.

The Peterborough Telegraph, or PT as it is known locally, is the local newspaper for the city of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, in the United Kingdom. It is based at New Priestgate House in the city centre.

The Sunday Independent was a well respected newspaper formerly based in Plymouth, then in Liskeard, and finally in Truro Cornwall. It was published on Sundays throughout South West England. The paper was founded in 1808 and had a circulation of 7,261 in 2003. The newspaper has a convoluted history which has been well documented during its declining years due to several legal disputes involving ex-staff.

The Stamford Mercury based in Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, claims to be "Britain's oldest continuously published newspaper title", although this is disputed by Berrow's Worcester Journal which was established in 1690. The Mercury has been published since 1712 but its masthead formerly claimed it was established in 1695 and still has "Britain's Oldest Newspaper".

The Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph is the local newspaper for north and east Northamptonshire and is the sister paper of Northampton's Chronicle & Echo. It is based at Newspaper House in Rothwell Road, Kettering, and has since 1996 been part of the Johnston Press newspaper group. The paper also has district offices in Wellingborough, Rushden and Corby.

The i is a British national newspaper published in London by Daily Mail and General Trust and distributed across the United Kingdom. It is aimed at "readers and lapsed readers" of all ages and commuters with limited time, and was originally launched in 2010 as a sister paper to The Independent. It was later acquired by Johnston Press in 2016 after The Independent shifted to a digital-only model. The i came under the control of JPIMedia a day after Johnston Press filed for administration on 16 November 2018. The paper and its website were bought by the Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) on 29 November 2019, for £49.6 million. On 6 December 2019 the Competition and Markets Authority served an initial enforcement order on DMGT and DMG Media Limited, requiring the paper to be run separately pending investigation.

In January 2021, it acquired JPIMedia for £10.2 million. In April 2022, JPIMedia was rebranded to National World. Since purchasing JPIMedia, National World has launched sixteen new titles and made a further seven acquisitions, notably Insider Media.

The Lymington Times and New Milton Advertiser are weekly English broadsheet newspapers which serve the New Forest in Hampshire and neighbouring Christchurch in Dorset. They are published by Highland News and Media Limited.
