The University of Ibadan (UI) is a public research university in Ibadan, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1948 as University College Ibadan, one of many colleges within the University of London. It became an independent university in 1962 and is the oldest degree-awarding institution in Nigeria. In 2004, GTB operations were halted by the RBI as GTB had accumulated non-performing assets in excess of permissible levels and its net worth turned negative, amidst accusations of mismanagement and reckless lending practices. GTB was then merged with the Oriental Bank of Commerce by the regulator.
