Mkhangeli Manford Matomela is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature until August 2013, when he left the legislature and the party to found the breakaway Kingdom Governance Movement. He was formerly the Speaker of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2004 to 2009 and the Eastern Cape's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education from 2004 to 2007. Matomela contested the 2014 general election as a candidate for the Kingdom Governance Movement, but the party did not win any seats.

Political career

Matomela was a longstanding representative of the ANC in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature. [1] He served as Speaker from 1999 [2] and, in May 2004, Premier Nosimo Balindlela appointed him to the Eastern Cape Executive Council as MEC for Education. [3] He resigned from the Executive Council in January 2007, citing personal reasons, and was replaced as MEC by Johnny Makgato. [4] He continued to represent the ANC in the provincial legislature until August 2013, when he resigned from the legislature and from the party to launch the Kingdom Governance Movement. [5] At the time of his resignation, he was the chairperson of the legislature's Portfolio Committee on Finance. [1]

The Kingdom Governance Movement was launched in Bhisho on 22 August 2013, but the Saturday Dispatch reported that Matomela had been preparing for its launch for about a year before then. [6] Matomela said that the party would register with the Electoral Commission to contest the 2014 general election, saying, "I feel limited in the ANC and have taken a decision not to campaign for them for the upcoming elections but for the prophetic kingdom politics". [6] The ANC said that Matomela had left "amicably" and that the party understood that it was not a suitable vehicle for Matomela's religious goals. [5] Dingaan Myolwa filled Matomela's seat in the provincial legislature. [7]

In the 2014 election, Matomela stood for election both to the National Assembly and to the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature, ranked first on the Kingdom Governance Movement's party list at both levels. However, the party did not win any seats in either legislature. [8] During the 2016 local elections, the party contested council seats in Mnquma in the Eastern Cape. [9]

Madikizela served as the provincial treasurer of the African National Congress (ANC) from October 2017 to May 2022.

Fundile David Gade is a South African educator and politician serving as the Eastern Cape MEC for Education since May 2019. He has been a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress since May 2014. Gade had previously served as the chairperson of the legislature's Portfolio Committee on Education and as the chief whip of the ANC caucus.

Mothibedi Gordon Kegakilwe was a South African politician and a party member of the African National Congress. He served as the North West MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs from May 2019 until his death in July 2020.

Dingaan Jacob Myolwa is a South African politician from the Eastern Cape who is a Member of the National Assembly for the African National Congress (ANC). He was appointed to parliament in 2021. Myolwa had previously served as a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2013 to 2014 and before that, as mayor of the OR Tambo District Municipality.

Kaobitsa Abel Bushy Maape is a South African politician and anti-apartheid activist who has been the 7th Premier of the North West and a member of the North West Provincial Legislature since September 2021. Maape is a member of the African National Congress and a former Robben Island prisoner.

Matodzi Mirriam Ramadwa is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress, she was elected to the Limpopo Provincial Legislature in 2009. In 2013, she was appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sports, Arts and Culture. Ramada was elected as the speaker of the provincial legislature in 2014. In 2015, she resigned as speaker. Ramadwa was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa in 2019.

Nandi Annah Ndalane is a South African politician who has served in the Limpopo Executive Council since 2014 and in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 1999. She is currently serving, since October 2022, as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development.

Lydia Johnson is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature until 2019. She was the legislature's Speaker from 2013 to 2019 and previously served in the KwaZulu-Natal Executive Council between 2006 and 2011: she was KwaZulu-Natal's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works from 2006 to 2009 and MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Rural Development from 2009 to 2011. In June 2022, she was appointed board chairperson at Ezemvelo.

Bulelwa Tunyiswa is a South African politician who served as the Eastern Cape's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture from May 2018 to May 2019. Before that, she was the Deputy Speaker of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2010 to 2018. She lost her position on the Executive Council after the 2019 general election, when she failed to gain re-election to the provincial legislature. A member of the African National Congress (ANC), Tunyiswa has also been a member of the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party (SACP) since 2012.

Modise Casalis "Casca" Mokitlane is a former politician and diplomat from South Africa who served in the Free State Provincial Legislature from 1999 until 2014. He is a former Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) and is known for his short-lived defection to the opposition Congress of the People (COPE) between 2009 and 2014.
