MobileBits Corporation is an American marketing technology/advertising company that operated a pure brand mobile marketing and engagement network called Samy and which markets a software platform for developing mobile shopping applications.[ citation needed ]

History

MobileBits Corporation is a United States mobile technology company. Walter Kostiuk, a former BlackBerry executive, founded the company in 2010 [1] Between 2011 and 2013, MobileBits acquired 3 companies to help accelerate grow of its IP holdings, product platform and software development resources starting with the merger of Pringo Inc. on July 1, 2011 bringing a social media integrated development platform called Pringo Connect. [2] MobileBits then acquired Aixum Tec on August 20, 2012 bringing it an enterprise back-end software system developed for retailers to market exclusive offers, deals and coupons as well as deliver digital loyalty and rewards cards on mobile devices called Samy4me. [3] The Company also acquired the assets of Proximus Mobility, an Atlanta-based hyperlocal proximity based marketing software company on June 4, 2013 bringing the Samy product enhanced proximity and geofencing capabilities. Product

On August 30, 2012, MobileBits introduced SAMY, a shopping application for iPhone and Android. [5] A store, merchant, or retailer can upload vouchers, offers, create loyalty cards and create messages in the application. Those vouchers, offers and loyalty cards can be viewed by users of the application. Users can select specific companies that are listed in the application to add to their, 'My Samy' section of the mobile application. SAMY supports over 35,000 merchants in Switzerland, Canada, and the United States. [6] Due to the success of the Samy mobile application and business model, MobileBits Inc, in 2016 subsequently introduced a white label version of their technology for third party partners to deploy in local markets. It is defined as a mobile commerce Network platform.[ citation needed ]

Partners

In 2012, Quantum Group partnered with MobileBits to provide access to SAMY for all of Quantum Groups merchants through their existing Point of Sale systems. [7]

In May 2013, MobileBits signed a strategic agreement with DDR Corp. (now SITE Centers), a real estate investment trust. The agreement provided for the acquisition of DDR's proprietary location-based mobile marketing solution called ValuText and the opportunity for MobileBits to distribute Samy through 450 shopping centers. [8]

MobileBits-owned marketing and engagement network Samy, finalized an exclusive multi-year agreement with Ignivia Technologies on July 8, 2013 to provide Samy services in Turkey, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Lebanon. [9]

In 2013, MobileBits received a job creation grant from Sarasota County FL with support of the Economic Development Council of Sarasota (EDC). [10]

Awards

MobileBits has received numerous awards for its Mobile Commerce Network and Samy products including a being recognized by the Local Search Association and Local Media Associations as having the "Best New Revenue Solution in Mobile" for the local media industry. There was a 3rd-place finish at the 2013 CTIA E-Tec for best Mobile Apps, Money, Payments, Banking, Mobile Commerce, Shopping & Rewards. [11]

The BOLT Browser was a web browsing system for mobile phones including feature phones and smartphones able to run Java ME applications. The BOLT browser was installed on the phone, and BOLT servers accessed Web pages, processed and compressed them, and delivered them to phones running the browser. The BOLT Browser was offered free of charge to consumers, and by license to mobile network operators and handset manufacturers. BOLT was produced by Bitstream Inc., the company which previously produced ThunderHawk for mobile network operators and handset manufacturers. BOLT was originally introduced into private beta on January 15, 2009 and was made available to the public on February 16, 2009 when the public beta was announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. BOLT supported Java-based handsets with Java MIDP 2 and CLDC 1.0 or higher. iOnRoad is a free augmented reality driving safety app. It received the International CES 2012 innovation award. The program uses the GPS feature, gyroscope and video camera stream of the native mobile device to monitor a vehicle’s position on the road, alerting drivers of lane departures and potential collisions with audio and visual cues. iOnRoad has been downloaded by over 500,000 people.

Opera Mobile Store was a platform-independent browser-based app store for mobile-phone owners and a digital application distribution platform used by more than 40,000 developers around the world, owned and maintained by Opera. Launched and powered by a third-party provider in March, 2011 the Opera Mobile Store was relaunched on a new platform, after acquisition of Handster, a mobile app store platform company, in January 2012. The service allows users to browse and download applications for over 7,500 different devices on Android, Java, BlackBerry OS, Symbian, iOS, and Windows Mobile.

An alternative to traditional paper and plastic card-based incentive programs, Clover Rewards provides interactive loyalty marketing solutions for businesses. The technology that Clover Rewards is built upon works on mobile phones via app or SMS and allows merchants to reward customers for frequent purchases. Clover Rewards also serves as a direct-marketing platform and analytics tool. Clover Rewards fits into the category of mobile loyalty, a modern type of loyalty program. In summer 2018, Perka was rebranded to Clover, its sister company.
