Mohammad Mohammadullah (Bengali :মোহাম্মদমুহম্মদুল্লাহ;21 October 1921 –12 November 1999) was the third president of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Mohammadullah became the Acting President on 24 December 1973,was elected president on 24 January 1974,and took oath of office on 27 January 1974. He remained President until 25 January 1975.
Mohammadullah was born in Saicha,Raipur,Lakshmipur,on 21 October 1921. [1] His father Munshi Abdul Wahab was a social worker. In 1943,he completed his secondary school certificate from Lakshmipur Adarsha Samad Government High School. Mohammadullah earned a bachelor's degree with honours in history from Dhaka University and obtained LLB degree from Ripon College Kolkata and again from Dhaka University in the same year 1948. In 1950,he became a member of the Dhaka Bar. In 1964,he was enrolled in Dhaka High Court as an advocate. [2]
Mohammadullah was an active member of the East Pakistan Awami League from 1950. [2] He had walked into the Awami League office in Nawabpur and told Sheikh Mujibur Rahman he would like to volunteer for Awami League and started working in office management. [3] In 1953,he was elected as office secretary of East Pakistan and held the same position till 1972 after being nominated by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. [2] [3] He actively participated in the six point movement in 1966,for which he was jailed for a long time. Mohammadullah was elected to the East Pakistan Provincial Assembly on the ticket of the Awami League in 1970. [2] He was appointed as the political advisor to the Acting President Syed Nazrul Islam during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. [2]
On 10 April 1972,he was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh Constituent Assembly (Ganoparishad) and the same year he became the acting Speaker. On 12 November 1972,he was elected Speaker. He was elected to the Member of the Parliament (JS) from the Raipur-Lakshmipur constituency,and was re-elected Speaker of the House again in 1973.
He became the Acting President of the Republic on 24 December 1973 and President on 24 January 1974. In January 1975,the fourth amendment was passed which removed then President Mohammad Mohammadullah from office and made Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman president for a five-year term. [4]
He was made Minister of Land Administration and Land Reforms in the Cabinet of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 26 January 1975. He was appointed as the Vice President by collaborators of the Assassination of Sheikh Mujib on August 1975. Mohammadullah joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 1980. He was appointed vice president by President Abdus Sattar in March 1982 but the tenure lasted just a day,because General Hussain Muhammad Ershad took over the reins of administration of the country. Mohammadullah was elected a member of the parliament (JS) once again in 1991 on BNP ticket. [2]
Mohammadullah died on 12 November 1999 at the age of 78. He was buried at Banani graveyard near Naval Headquarters. [2]

Politics of Bangladesh takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic,whereby the Prime Minister of Bangladesh is the head of government,and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The Constitution of Bangladesh was written in 1972 and has undergone seventeen amendments.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,popularly known by the honorific prefix Bangabandhu was a Bangladeshi politician,revolutionary,statesman,activist and diarist. As a politician,Mujib had held continuous positions as president or prime minister from April 1971 until his assassination in August 1975:as president from 1971 to 1972 and briefly from 1975 until his death,and as prime minister from 1972 to 1975. Mujib successfully led the Bangladeshi independence movement and restored the Bengali sovereignty after over two centuries following the Battle of Plassey in 1757,for which he is honoured as the 'Father of the Nation' in Bangladesh. In 2011,the fifteenth constitutional amendment in Bangladesh referred to Sheikh Mujib as the Father of the Nation who declared independence;these references were enshrined in the fifth,sixth,and seventh schedules of the constitution. His Bengali nationalist ideology,socio-political theories,and political doctrines are sometimes called Mujibism.
The Bangladesh Awami League,often simply called the Awami League or AL,is one of the major political parties in Bangladesh,being the ruling party since 2009,and has since been described as authoritarian.

Abdus Sattar was a Bangladeshi statesman. A leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP),he served as the President of Bangladesh from 1981 to 1982,and earlier as the Vice President of Bangladesh. Abdur Rahman Biswas was a Bangladeshi politician. He was the President of Bangladesh from 1991 to 1996. Biswas represented Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly prior to the independence of Bangladesh.
Abul Hasnat Muhammad Qamaruzzaman was a Bangladeshi politician,government minister and a leading member of the Awami League. A member of the Mujibnagar Government,Qamaruzzaman was murdered along with Syed Nazrul Islam,Muhammad Mansur Ali and Tajuddin Ahmed in the jail killings in Dhaka Central Jail on 3 November 1975 by a group of army officers on the instruction of President Mostaq.
Jail Killing Day is observed by the Awami League (AL) of Bangladesh and many other political organisations on 3 November every year. It commemorates the killing of four Awami League and national leaders :former Vice-President Syed Nazrul Islam,former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tajuddin Ahmed and Captain (Rtd.) Mansur Ali,and former Home Minister A H M Quamruzzaman on this date in 1975.
Ataur Rahman Khan was a Bangladeshi lawyer,politician and writer,and served as Chief Minister of East Pakistan from 1 September 1956 –March 1958,and as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from 30 March 1984 to 9 July 1986.

Prior to his presidency,he served as a district and sessions judge and a commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission from 2011 to 2016.
