Molly Renshaw (born 6 May 1996) is an English breaststroke swimmer. In 2016, she won the 200 metres breaststroke at the 2016 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m).
In 2012, she won the national 200 m title, but was not selected for the 2012 Olympics because her time was below the qualifying standard. She swam the qualifying time at the Olympic trials of March 2012, but did not win the race, which was required for the Olympic selection. [1] Viewing setbacks as opportunities to identify and work on areas needing improvement, Molly Renshaw overcame the disappointment of not making the 2012 Olympic team. Recognizing areas where she needed support to reach the next level, Molly surrounded herself with a good team and coaches who pushed her, through the highs and lows of training and competition, to achieve her goals.
Renshaw made her British debut aged 15 at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, the first of five World Championships in which she reached five individual finals and one with the British women’s medley relay.
She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics, [2] setting a new British record of 2:22:33 while qualifying for the 200m breaststroke final. [3]
Speaking from example, the 5-time World Championships competitor and 2016 World Champion, encourages younger swimmers to, “Be patient! You have to work hard to achieve your best, and it won’t come without going through highs and lows and being persistent with your training.”
In 2020 Renshaw competed for the US-based swim team - New York Breakers - in the second season of the International Swimming League. [4]
Renshaw was named as a member of the British team to go to the postponed 2020 Olympics in 2021.
Renshaw was selected to compete for the New York Breakers again for the 2021 International Swimming League. [5]
On 8th November 2022, Renshaw announced her retirement from the sport after an 11-year career. [6]
Mireia Belmonte García is a Spanish Olympic, world, and European champion swimmer. She is the world record holder in the short course 200 metre butterfly and 400 metre individual medley. Formerly, she held the world record in the short course 400 metre freestyle, 800 metre freestyle, and 1500 metre freestyle. A specialist in the 200 metres individual medley, she is the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games champion in the event, and has won silver medals in the same event at the 2016 Summer Olympics, the 2015 World Aquatics Championships, 2016 European Aquatics Championships, the 2014 World Short-Course Championships and the 2013 and 2015 European Short Course Championships – on each occasion behind World and Olympic champion Katinka Hosszú. Ross Murdoch is a Scottish competitive swimmer who has represented Great Britain at the Summer Olympics in 2016 and 2020, the FINA World Championships and the LEN European Championships, and Scotland at the Commonwealth Games from 2014 to the present. Sydney Pickrem is a Canadian competitive swimmer. A two-time Olympian, she won a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics as part of the Canadian 4×100 metre medley relay team, and is a seven-time World Aquatics Championships medalist.
Kylie Jacqueline Masse is a Canadian competitive swimmer. She is a four-time Olympic medallist, having tied for the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 100 m backstroke and then won silver medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics in both the 100 m and 200 m backstroke and a bronze medal in the 4x100 m medley. Masse is a two-time world champion in the 100 m backstroke, breaking the eight year old world record in the process, which she held until July 2018. While winning her title in Budapest at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships she became the first Canadian woman to become a world champion in a swimming event. She subsequently became the first Canadian woman to defend her world title at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships.
