The Citadel,The Military College of South Carolina,commonly known simply as The Citadel,is a public senior military college in Charleston,South Carolina. Established in 1842,it is one of six senior military colleges in the United States. It has 18 academic departments divided into five schools offering 31 majors and 57 minors. The military program is made up of cadets pursuing bachelor's degrees who live on campus. The non-military programs offer 12 undergraduate degrees,26 graduate degrees,as well as evening and online programs with seven online graduate degrees,three online undergraduate degrees,and three certificate programs.

Ruth Burnett Love,also known as Ruth B. Love-Holloway was an American educator,education administrator,author and former schools superintendent. Love was formerly a professor of education at her college alma mater San Francisco State University. Love served as superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District from November 1975 until February 1981 and the Chicago Public Schools from March 1981 until March 1985. Love was the first African-American to serve as superintendent for the Chicago Public Schools district. In 1983,Love received the Horatio Alger Award and a Candace Award for Education from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Love was named as one among 100 of the best school managers in North America by Educator Magazine in 1984.

He received the “Order of the Palmetto”from Governor David Beasley,was named Saluda County Citizen of the Year,and was inducted into the SC Dairy Hall of Fame at Clemson University. Alice Buck Norwood Spearman Wright was an American liberal feminist advocating for human relations. From 1954 to 1967,she served as the executive director of the South Carolina Council on Human Relations,which was an affiliate of the South Carolina Division of the Southern Regional Council (SRC). She directed the council to participate in the Voter Education Project,which helped to promote compliance with the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

She has served as a community development consultant for the United States Department of Labor and as a consultant for the Lumbee Tribal Council for administration of tribal programs. The recipient of numerous awards and honors for her work in human rights and education,in 2011,she was inducted into the North Carolina Women's Hall of Fame.
