Mairiis Kilcher, better known as Mossy Kilcher, is an Alaskan singer-songwriter, homesteader, and ornithologist.

Biography

Mairiis Kilcher was born near Homer, Alaska. She is the daughter of Yule F. Kilcher and sister of Atz Kilcher. [1] Through Atz, she is the paternal aunt of singer-songwriter Jewel. As a teenager, her family took a trip to Switzerland where she was introduced to the music of Andrés Segovia. [2] This sparked an interest in guitar.

She attended Reed College, where she was inspired by Lloyd J. Reynolds.

In 1977, she released her only album to date, Northwind Calling , under the married name Mossy Davidson. It was not a commercial success, but earned a cult reputation among folk enthusiasts.

Northwind Calling was reissued under the name Mossy Kilcher by Tompkins Square Records in 2020. [3] [4]

Pieces of You is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Jewel, released on February 28, 1995, by Atlantic Records. It was produced by Ben Keith, who has also produced works for artists such as Neil Young and Patsy Cline. Featuring acoustic guitar-based songs written when Jewel was a teenager, the album is composed of both live recordings from 1994 at The Innerchange, a coffeehouse in San Diego, and studio recordings completed at Neil Young's personal studio in Redwood City, California.

Goodbye Alice in Wonderland is the sixth studio album by singer-songwriter Jewel, released on May 2, 2006, through Atlantic Records. The album marks a return to her musical roots after 0304, and trying to write an autobiographical album like she did with Pieces of You. The album was written in the form of a novel with each track representing a chapter. Although the first official single was "Again and Again", the title track "Goodbye Alice in Wonderland" debuted a month earlier on her website as an Internet exclusive. The second single, "Good Day" was released to radio in late June 2006. The next single was "Stephenville, TX". A video for it can be seen on Yahoo! Launch.

Alaska: The Last Frontier is an American reality cable television series which premiered on December 29, 2011, on the Discovery Channel. The show documents the extended Kilcher family, descendants of Swiss immigrants and Alaskan pioneers, Yule and Ruth Kilcher, at their homestead 11 miles outside of Homer. By living without modern heating, the clan chooses to subsist by farming, hunting and preparing for the long winters. The Kilcher family are relatives of the singer Jewel, who has appeared on the show. The tenth season premiered on October 25, 2020. In September 2022 an announcement was made that season 11 will begin airing in October 2022.
