Mrs. Kasha Davis is the stage name of Edward Paul Popil Jr., [1] an American drag queen, actor and television personality from Scranton, Pennsylvania. [2] She is best known for competing on the seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race and the eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars . After appearing on the reality television show, Mrs. Kasha Davis toured internationally, released several musical singles, and performed in film, television and theatre. [3] [4] [5]

Career

Based in Rochester, Mrs. Kasha Davis frequently performs with long-time collaborators and fellow RuPaul's Drag Race alums Pandora Boxx and Darienne Lake. [6] [7] She has performed "Bosom Buddies", a two-woman show with Darienne Lake nationally and internationally. [7] [8] [9] Prior to Drag Race, Mrs. Kasha Davis starred in and co-wrote the film Mrs. Kasha Davis: The Life of an International Housewife Celebrity with Michael Steck (Pandora Boxx). [10] For fourteen years, Mrs. Kasha Davis has co-written and performed with fellow Rochester-based drag queen Aggy Dune in "Big Wigs", a touring diva impersonation theater show. [11] [12]

Mrs. Kasha Davis has performed her one-woman show "There's Always Time for a Cocktail" at Laurie Beechman Theater in New York, as well as venues in San Francisco, Rochester, London and Brighton in the United Kingdom. [6] [13] [14] [15] [12] She is also an advocate for and frequent performer in Drag Story Hour, a national event bringing drag queens into libraries and theaters to read books to children. [16] [17]

Since appearing on RuPaul's Drag Race, Mrs. Kasha Davis is currently starring with Deven Green in WOW Presents Plus series Tails of the City: Pets 4 Pets. [18] She additionally had a supporting role as Vicki Leaks in the film Hurricane Bianca 2: From Russia with Hate [19] [20] and hosted the film's Los Angeles premiere. [21]

In June 2019, Mrs. Kasha Davis was one of 37 queens to be featured on the cover of New York Magazine . [22] In 2021, director Angela Washko's documentary film Workhorse Queen premiered at Slamdance Film Festival. The film focuses on Popil's life before and after getting cast on RuPaul's Drag Race. [23] In 2023, Davis was announced as a competitor on the eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race AllStars. [24] During Episode Three, she landed in the bottom two alongside Darienne Lake, and the winner of the week's "lip-sync for the win", Jessica Wild (who beat the episode's "lip-sync assassin”, Ra'Jah O'Hara, to Kim Petras’ “Coconuts”), chose Davis to be eliminated, giving her a placement of 10th out of 12 contestants.

Personal life

Popil was born to Ellen, a cosmetics saleswoman, and Edward Paul Popil Sr., [25] [26] a U.S. Marshal, [27] and is married to Steven Levins, who frequently makes out-of-drag public appearances alongside Davis as "Mr. Kasha Davis". He is a stepfather to his two children, Melissa and Jessica, making him one of the few Drag Race contestants with children. [28] [29] [30] He and Levins frequently collaborate on music and video content. [31] [32] He graduated from Marywood University with a BA in theatre before becoming a principal dancer at the Ballet Theatre of Scranton. [33] He has been sober since July 13, 2015. [34]

RuPaul's Drag Race is an American reality competition television series, the first in the Drag Race franchise, produced by World of Wonder for Logo TV, WOW Presents Plus, VH1 and, beginning with the fifteenth season, MTV. The show documents RuPaul in the search for "America's next drag superstar". RuPaul plays the role of host, mentor, and head judge for this series, as contestants are given different challenges each week. Contestants are judged by a panel that includes RuPaul, Michelle Visage, an alternating third main judge of either Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews, or Ts Madison, and one or more guest judges, who critique their progress throughout the competition. RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars is an American reality competition spin off edition of the original RuPaul's Drag Race, which is produced by World of Wonder, for Logo TV and later VH1. However, it was announced on February 20, 2020, on the show's official Twitter account that the fifth season would premiere on June 5, 2020, on Showtime. <i>RuPauls Drag Race</i> (season 10) Season of television series

The tenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race began airing on March 22, 2018, on VH1. The premiere was broadcast one week after the finale of the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, and episodes are to be followed by RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked. Contestants were officially announced on February 22, 2018, in a teaser trailer during an episode of All Stars 3 later followed by a special "Meet the Queens" live-stream on Facebook, hosted by season nine winner, Sasha Velour. RuPaul's DragCon NYC is an annual fan convention and expo of drag culture held in New York City, which debuted in September 2017. It is based on the successful RuPaul's DragCon LA which was launched in Los Angeles in 2015 billed as a “convention that celebrates ‘the art of drag, queer culture and self-expression for all’”. The NYC event is considered the "world's largest celebration of drag culture" with 100,000 attendees. The event is an outgrowth of the internationally successful RuPaul's Drag Race, which generated Drag Race Thailand, RuPaul's Drag Race UK, RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, and Chile's The Switch Drag Race. Workhorse Queen is a 2021 documentary film directed by Angela Washko. After a surprise casting onto reality television show RuPaul's Drag Race, 47-year old suburban telemarketing manager Ed Popil leaves his job to pursue a full-time entertainment industry career as his drag queen alter ego, 1960s-era housewife Mrs. Kasha Davis. The film premiered at the 2021 Slamdance Film Festival. Workhorse Queen will be released on video on demand and DVD through the film's distributor Breaking Glass Pictures on May 3, 2022 and on TV broadcast and streaming in June, 2022 on STARZ.

<i>RuPauls Drag Race All Stars</i> (season 8) Season of television series

The eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars premiered on Paramount+ on May 12, 2023. The series continues with RuPaul as host and judge, with returning judges Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, and Ross Mathews joined by Ts Madison on the judging panel. The season's premiere date was announced in a brief teaser trailer aired during the finale of the fifteenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. The cast was revealed on April 20.
