The Nanaimo Timbermen are a Senior A box lacrosse club, based in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The team competes in the 7-team Western Lacrosse Association (WLA).
Their short history has not been a pleasant one, placing sixth place in their first two seasons. In 2007, the Timbermen finished in fifth place, missing the playoffs by a tie-breaker with the Maple Ridge Burrards. In the 2010 season, the Timbermen finished fifth in the league, missing the playoffs by a three-way tie-breaker with the Coquitlam Adanacs and Maple Ridge Burrards.
Unlike their island counterparts, the Victoria Shamrocks, the Timbermen rely on mostly local talent with 9 of their players coming from the Nanaimo area and 19 of their players coming from Vancouver Island.
This team is not related to the similarly named Nanaimo Timbermen that played in the WLA from 1951 to 1961 and also from 1975 to 1981.

The Ontario Raiders were a member of the National Lacrosse League during the 1998 NLL season. The franchise was founded as an expansion team in Hamilton, Ontario, and played their home games at Copps Coliseum. Former Buffalo Bandits coach Les Bartley was hired to coach the new team, and he lured former Bandit Jim Veltman to join him, becoming the Raiders' captain. The team finished a respectable 6-6 in their inaugural season, but missed the playoffs on a tie-breaker. Following the season, losses of $250,000 forced owner Chris Fritz to look for partners. Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment considered purchasing the team, but ultimately a group which included Bill Watters, the then Assistant General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Paul Beeston, former president of the Toronto Blue Jays, Tie Domi, player for the Maple Leafs, and Bobby Orr, former NHL player, bought it for $250,000 and promptly relocated the team to Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens where they rebranded it the Toronto Rock.
The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) is a men's Senior A box lacrosse sanctioned by the Canadian Lacrosse Association. It consists of seven teams, based in cities throughout southwestern British Columbia. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the right to compete against the Major Series Lacrosse champion for the Mann Cup every September. The championship is hosted alternately between Ontario and British Columbia every year.
John Arthur James "Jack" Bionda was a Canadian lacrosse and hockey player. He was a lacrosse superstar, dominating the sport throughout the 1950s and early 1960s. In hockey he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League between 1955 and 1959, mainly spending his career in the minor American Hockey League and Western Hockey League.
Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) is a Senior A box lacrosse league based in Ontario, Canada sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association. Most of the star players in the league play or have played in the National Lacrosse League. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the right to compete against the Western Lacrosse Association champion for the Mann Cup every September. The championship is hosted alternately between Ontario and British Columbia every year.
Gogie Stewart was a multi-sport athlete from British Columbia, notably a former Canadian soccer player and lacrosse player. He was a three-time national soccer champion with Canadian clubs Vancouver City FC (1950) and Westminster Royals FC as well as a two-time national lacrosse champion with Vancouver Burrards (1949) and Nanaimo Timbermen (1956). He was one of Canada's starting inside forwards during FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 1957. After his retirement, he became an honoured member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame.
Lewis Ratcliff is a retired professional lacrosse player. Originally from London, England, Ratcliff moved to Victoria at the age of 7.
The West Central Senior Lacrosse League (WCSLL) is a men's Senior C amateur box lacrosse league sanctioned by the British Columbia Lacrosse Association in Canada.
Vancouver Burrards Senior Lacrosse Club has been the name of several lacrosse teams in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Currently, the Club consists of three teams in Senior B, Senior C, and Intermediate B lacrosse; the Junior B team suspended operations for the 2007 season. There is no affiliation between the current Vancouver Burrards teams and the WLA Burrards now located in Maple Ridge.
The Maple Ridge Burrards are a Senior A box lacrosse club, based in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada. The team competes in the 7-team Western Lacrosse Association (WLA).
Tom Johnson, is a professional lacrosse forward for the Edmonton Rush of the National Lacrosse League and the Burnaby Lakers of the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA).
Jeff Shattler is an Iroquois professional box lacrosse player who currently plays with the Saskatchewan Rush of the National Lacrosse League (NLL). He has Ojibwe and Inuit roots and has competed internationally with the Iroquois Nationals, including with the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship silver medal winning teams in 2011 and 2015. He was the 2011 NLL Most Valuable Player, 2011 NLL Transition Player of the Year, and the 2018 NLL Cup Most Valuable Player.
The Yorkton Bulldogs are a Junior B box lacrosse team based out of Yorkton, Saskatchewan. They are a member of the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League.
The West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association is a Senior B Canadian box lacrosse league. The teams are located in southwest British Columbia. Champions of the league move on to compete for the Presidents Cup, the Canadian National Senior B championship.
Chase Fraser is a Canadian professional lacrosse player who plays as a forward for the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League and as an attackman for Chaos Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League.
Scott Ranger is a former professional Canadian lacrosse player who played for the Calgary Roughnecks and San Jose Stealth in the National Lacrosse League.
William Lloyd "Moon" Wootton was a Canadian professional box lacrosse goaltender. At the height of his career, Moon was considered by some to be the best lacrosse goaltender in Canada and by some to be the greatest lacrosse goaltender in history. He holds the distinction of winning five straight Mann Cup national championships, three Mann Cup most valuable player honours, and nine Ontario Senior A Championships in nine season of participation. He was entered into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in its first year of existence.
Stanley "Bunny" Albert Joseph was a Canadian amateur box lacrosse goaltender. A member of the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Bunny was the winner of three Mann Cup national championships over the span of a 25-year career. He is known for his unorthodox goaltending style and longevity as an elite goaltender in the sport. At the time of his death he was a highly respected elder of the Squamish Nation in North Vancouver.
Ben McIntosh is a lacrosse player for the Philadelphia Wings in the National Lacrosse League and Waterdogs Lacrosse Club in the Premier Lacrosse League. McIntosh was named to the All World Team at the 2018 World Lacrosse Championship.
Frankie Scigliano is a professional lacrosse goaltender for the San Diego Seals in the National Lacrosse League. He was a second round draft pick in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft.
The Pacific Northwest Junior Lacrosse League, or PNWJLL is a Junior B Tier 2 box lacrosse league based in British Columbia, Canada, sanctioned by the British Columbia Lacrosse Association. The league champion and runner up both compete for the British Columbia Junior B2 Provincial Championship.
