Queer theory is the perspective that questions the perception that cisgender and heterosexual identities are in any sense “standard.”It revisits such fields as literary analysis,philosophy,and politics with a “queer”approach.
Women's studies is an academic field that draws on feminist and interdisciplinary methods to place women's lives and experiences at the center of study,while examining social and cultural constructs of gender;systems of privilege and oppression;and the relationships between power and gender as they intersect with other identities and social locations such as race,sexual orientation,socio-economic class,and disability.
Postcolonial feminism is a form of feminism that developed as a response to feminism focusing solely on the experiences of women in Western cultures and former colonies. Postcolonial feminism seeks to account for the way that racism and the long-lasting political,economic,and cultural effects of colonialism affect non-white,non-Western women in the postcolonial world. Postcolonial feminism originated in the 1980s as a critique of feminist theorists in developed countries pointing out the universalizing tendencies of mainstream feminist ideas and argues that women living in non-Western countries are misrepresented.
Nancy Julia Chodorow is an American sociologist and professor. She began her career as a professor of Women's studies at Wellesley College in 1973,and from 1974 on taught at the University of California,Santa Cruz,until 1986. She then was a professor in the departments of sociology and clinical psychology at the University of California,Berkeley until she resigned in 1986,after which she taught psychiatry at Harvard Medical School/Cambridge Health Alliance. Chodorow is often described as a leader in feminist thought,especially in the realms of psychoanalysis and psychology.
Patricia Hill Collins is an American academic specializing in race,class,and gender. She is a distinguished university professor of sociology emerita at the University of Maryland,College Park. She is also the former head of the Department of African-American Studies at the University of Cincinnati,and a past president of the American Sociological Association (ASA). Collins was the 100th president of the ASA and the first African-American woman to hold this position.
Nancy Fraser is an American philosopher,critical theorist,feminist,and the Henry A. and Louise Loeb Professor of Political and Social Science and professor of philosophy at The New School in New York City. Widely known for her critique of identity politics and her philosophical work on the concept of justice,Fraser is also a staunch critic of contemporary liberal feminism and its abandonment of social justice issues. Fraser holds honorary doctoral degrees from four universities in three countries,and won the 2010 Alfred Schutz Prize in Social Philosophy from the American Philosophical Association. She was President of the American Philosophical Association Eastern Division for the 2017–2018 term.
Feminist anthropology is a four-field approach to anthropology that seeks to transform research findings,anthropological hiring practices,and the scholarly production of knowledge,using insights from feminist theory. Simultaneously,feminist anthropology challenges essentialist feminist theories developed in Europe and America. While feminists practiced cultural anthropology since its inception,it was not until the 1970s that feminist anthropology was formally recognized as a subdiscipline of anthropology. Since then,it has developed its own subsection of the American Anthropological Association – the Association for Feminist Anthropology –and its own publication,Feminist Anthropology. Their former journal Voices is now defunct.
France Winddance Twine is an Black and Native American sociologist,ethnographer,visual artist,and documentary filmmaker. Twine has conducted field research in Brazil,the UK,and the United States on race,racism,and anti-racism. She has published 11 books and more than 80 articles,review essays,and books on these topics.
Beverley Skeggs is a British sociologist,noted as one of the foremost feminist sociologists in the world. Currently,she works as a "Distinguished Professor" in the Sociology Department at Lancaster University,developing a Center for Social Inequalities in the North West of England. She continues to run the "Economics of Care" theme at the International Inequalities centre at the London School of Economics (LSE) and is a visiting professor at Goldsmiths University. She has been the head of two of the UK’s leading Sociology Departments,at the University of Manchester and Goldsmiths,as well as co-director of Lancaster's Women's Studies. In addition,she played a part in transforming Britain's oldest sociology journal,The Sociological Review,into an independent foundation devoted to opening up critical social science and supporting social scientists.
Jody Miller is a feminist criminology professor at the School of Criminal Justice at the Rutgers University (Newark). Her education includes:B.S. in journalism from Ohio University,1989;M.A. in sociology from Ohio University,1990;M.A. in women's studies at Ohio State University,1991;and her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Southern California in 1996. She specializes in feminist theory and qualitative research methods. Her research focuses on gender,crime and victimization,in the context of urban communities,the commercial sex industry,sex tourism,and youth gangs. Miller has also been elected as the vice president of the American Society of Criminology for 2015,the executive counselor of the American Society of Criminology for 2009–2011,as well as received the University of Missouri-St. Louis Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Service in 2007.
Sue Scott is a British sociologist and feminist whose research has focused primarily on sexuality,gender and risk. She is a visiting professor at the University of Newcastle and an honorary professor at the University of Helsinki. From 2013–2019 she was honorary professor in the Centre for Women's Studies at the University of York. She was president of the British Sociological Association 2007–2009 and president of the European Sociological Association 2017–2019. She is a co-founder and managing editor of the Social Science Research Magazine Discover Society.

Oyèrónkẹ́Oyěwùmí is a Nigerian gender scholar and full professor of sociology at Stony Brook University. She acquired her bachelor's degree in political science at the University of Ibadan in Ibadan,Nigeria and went on to pursue her graduate degree in Sociology at the University of California,Berkeley. Oyěwùmíis the winner of the African Studies Association's 2021 Distinguished Africanist Award,which recognizes and honours individuals who have contributed a lifetime of outstanding scholarship in African studies combined with service to the Africanist community.
Lionel CantúJr.,was an assistant professor of sociology at the University of California,Santa Cruz,who focused on queer theory,queer issues,and Latin American immigration. His groundbreaking dissertation,The Sexuality of Migration:Border Crossings and Mexican Immigrant Men,which was edited,compiled,and published posthumously,focuses on the experiences of Mexican-queer migrants.

Beginning with her 1991 pioneering essay 'U.S. Third World Feminism:The Theory and Method of Oppositional Consciousness in the Postmodern World',Sandoval emerged as a significant voice for women of color and decolonial feminism.
Multiracial feminist theory is promoted by women of color,including Black,Latina,Asian,Native American,and anti-racist white women. In 1996,Maxine Baca Zinn and Bonnie Thornton Dill wrote “Theorizing Difference from Multiracial Feminism," a piece emphasizing intersectionality and the application of intersectional analysis in feminist discourse.
Raka Ray is an American sociologist and academic. She is a full-time professor at the University of California,Berkeley in the departments of Sociology and Southeast Asian Studies. She became the Dean of Social Sciences at UC-Berkeley in January 2020. Ray's research interests include gender and feminist theory,postcolonial sociology,emerging middle classes,South Asia,inequality,qualitative research methods,and social movements. Her current project explores changes in the meanings and relations of servitude in India. Ray is also an editor of the publication Feminist Studies.
