The National Museum of Saint Kitts is a museum in Basseterre, Saint George Basseterre Parish, Saint Kitts and Nevis. It is run by the St. Christopher National Trust.

History

The current museum building was originally constructed as Treasury Building in 1894. [1] It was once used as the entry port from the nearby pier. [2] In 1996, the treasury moved to a new building. [3] In 2002, the museum was finally opened. [4]

Geology

The museum building once stood at the waterfront south of Saint Kitts Island facing the Basseterre Bay. Now the area south of the building has been reclaimed. [3]

The museum spans over an area of 900 m2. [3]

Dieppe Bay Town is a town in Saint John Capisterre Parish in the island of Saint Kitts, in the country of Saint Kitts and Nevis in the West Indies. Settled in 1538, it is the oldest town founded by Europeans in the whole of the Eastern Caribbean. The original town only survived a few weeks before it was destroyed by the Spanish, but it was re-founded in 1625 by French settlers led by Pierre D'Esnambuc. Dieppe Bay Town is the co-capital of St. John Capisterre Parish along with Saddlers. Originally the northern part of the parish was ruled by France, in the region of "Capisterre de St. Christophe", of which Dieppe was the capital. The southern part of the parish was ruled by the United Kingdom, in "British Saint Christopher", which had its parish capital in Saddlers. The Saint Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) representing Saint Kitts and Nevis at the Olympic Games. It is also the body responsible for Saint Kitts and Nevis's representation at the Commonwealth Games. The executive board consists of the president, secretary general, vice president, assistant secretary general, and four members. The president is Alphonso Bridgewater and the secretary general is Glenville Jeffers. Marcella Liburd

Marcella Liburd is a Kittitian politician. Trained as a teacher and then as a barrister and solicitor, Liburd was the first woman to serve as Speaker of the National Assembly of Saint Kitts and Nevis. She has served in various Ministerial positions, as Acting Prime Minister, and is the current Chair of the Opposition for the Labour Party. She is the first woman to serve as Chair in the 81-year-old organization.

Kennedy Sylvester Isles was a Saint Kitts and Nevis footballer who played as a midfielder. He played for Newtown United in the SKNFA Super League and the Saint Kitts and Nevis national football team. Isles, who was shot in Newtown, Basseterre, died of gunshot wounds on 24 January 2020, one day shy of his 29th birthday.

Saint Kitts and Nevis-Trinidad and Tobago relations refers to the bilateral relations between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago. Basseterre has a Trinidadian Consulate. Both countries are a part of Organization of American States, CARICOM and Commonwealth of Nations.
