Neec Nonso (born 24 October 1990) is a Nigerian artist who works in the fields of augmented reality (AR), photography, and filmmaking. [1]

He is known for his work titled Christmas and Clothes, which focuses on childhood memories of Christmas celebrations in Nigerian villages. [2]

Neec is also recognized for his AR pieces that explore themes such as belief in reincarnation, the afterlife, and cultural taboos and myths about death. He is a member of 1884 photo collective, [3] a pan-African photo movement; and African Photojournalism Database (APJD) [4] which is a joint project by the World Press Photo Foundation and Everyday Africa.

Early life and education

Neec Nonso was born in Aguleri, Anambra State, later moved with his family to Lagos. [5] He studied theatre and film studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

In 2019, he emerged as the winner LagosPhoto portfolio review and was awarded a one-year residency programme with African Artists Foundation, Lagos. The Prince Claus foundation announced him as one of the 12 artists reimagining the future of their cities as part of the mentorship programme in 2023. [6]

Neec is an alumnus of 2022 Rele young contemporaries [7] [8] [9] and a finalist of Art-X, Lagos. [10] [11]

Rele Gallery is a contemporary art space and gallery in Lagos, Nigeria. It is on Military Street, Onikan Lagos and on Victoria Island, Lagos.

Adenrele Sonariwo is a Nigerian entrepreneur and art curator. She is the founder of the Rele Art Gallery on Military Street, Onikan, Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria as well as the Rele Art Gallery on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, California. Rele Gallery is the first African contemporary art gallery to establish an outpost in Los Angeles. Sonariwo was the lead curator of the first Nigerian pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017. Alongside the Rele Art Gallery, Sonariwo is also the founding director of the Rele Arts Foundation. The foundation's projects include the annual young Contemporaries programme, which offers grants, mentorship, residences and training to a small group of emerging artists, an opportunity that results in an exhibition hosted at the gallery.

ART X Lagos is an art fair in Lagos, Nigeria. It is the leading international art fair in West Africa, founded and launched in 2016, and seven editions have been held so far. The eighth edition of the fair will be held from 2 to 5 November 2023.

Sejiro Avoseh is a visual artist from Nigeria who resides in Canterbury, England. A painter best known for his signature fusion of abstracted human figures and automobile parts using painting and collaging techniques, Sejiro makes his painted montages from cut-out magazines and newspapers. Sejiro's works are autobiographical, lending critical voices on the poor fate of the indigent underclass in his society, and on the highhandedness and abuse of power by public servants and elected officials. In 2018, he was featured in the Financial Times as one of Nigeria's promising artists.

Mohamed Altoum is a Sudanese freelance documentary photographer. He is one of the founding members of the 'Sudanese Photographers Group' and became known for his photographic storytelling about migrants of the Sudanese diaspora living in Nairobi, Kenya. Another of his photo stories is called Hoshmmar, where he traced the life of his late father through Kenya, Sudan and Egypt to explore his heritage, originating from the culture of Nubians in northern Sudan.

Samson Akinnire is a Nigerian visual artist, painter and sculptor, based in Lagos state, Nigeria.

Ebenezer Samuel Akinola, is a Nigerian artist and curator known for his work in portraiture, figurative and abstract African art. Born and based in Iwaya waterfront community in Lagos, Olufela is the artistic director of Slum Makers Art Project (X-MAP) in Makoko, and the co-cultural producer of the annual Iwaya Community Art Festival in Lagos.
