Nehru Maidan or Central Maidan is a multi purpose ground in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. This ground is situated in heart of the city Hampankatta. The ground is mainly used for organizing matches of football, cricket and other sports. Also known for many public events organized here such as political rallies, religious festivals, exhibitions. [1] [2]

Nehru Maidan was named after the first Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

Nehru Maidan is an important venue hosting domestic tournaments and many inter-school and collegiate tournaments. The Mangalore Sports Club (MSC) is a popular organisation in the city and has been elected as the institutional member for the Mangalore Zone of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) which is situated in Nehru Maidan.

Dakshina Kannada Football Association (DKDFA), annually organizes the "Independence Day cup" on the occasion of Independence Day at Nehru Maidan. Various schools and colleges from across Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu districts will be participating and the matches are conducted under seven categories. [3]

Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, locally known as Kaloor Stadium, is a multi-purpose international stadium in Kochi, Kerala. The stadium has a capacity of 60,500 spectators. For Indian Super League matches it is restricted to 39,000 as only lower and middle tiers of the stadium are rented out for the matches. The building of a world-class international sports stadium in Kerala was sanctioned by the government of the late Chief minister of Kerala, K. Karunakaran. The stadium was completed ahead of schedule in 1996 by the Greater Cochin Development Authority led by V. Joseph Thomas IPS. The stadium is widely touted to be one of the noisiest football stadiums in the world due to its distinctive architecture.

The Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium used mostly for football matches situated in Margao, Goa, India. The venue has been used to host both international football as well as cricket matches. It is Goa's only international stadium and has a seating capacity of 19,000 people. Hampankatta is the centre of Mangalore City, Karnataka. Hampankatta also called as Happananakatte/Hampankatte/Hampananakatte/Hampanakatte. Most of the public utilities are located here and the locality boasts the most buzzing commercial activity in the city. Hampanakkatte was named by the British in 1920. Its original name was 'Appanakatte'. It was named after a person called Appanna Poojary who constructed a 'well' in the region around 1900, hence it was named Appannakatte. Sports in Karnataka

Cricket is by far the most popular sport in Karnataka with International cricket matches attracting a sizeable number of spectators who are willing to pay more than the standard ticket price to get a chance to watch the match. The sports related infrastructure is mainly concentrated in Bangalore which also played host to the 4th National Games of India in the year 1997. Bangalore is also the location of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) which is the premier sports institute in the country. Karnataka is sometimes referred to as the cradle of Indian swimming because of high standards in swimming compared to other states.

Ammembala Balappa was an Indian freedom fighter and socialist leader who is known for participating in the Quit India Movement in 1942. He played an important role in drafting the Declaration of land policy by the D. Devaraj Urs government during prime minister Indira Gandhi's tenure. He is also credited for founding the first Tulu language newspaper Tulu Siri in 1970.
