Nelson Mandela Road

Nelson Mandela Road is a road in South Delhi, India. [1] The road is one of the roads leading to Vasant Kunj from Vasant Vihar and Munirka. A section of the road is bound by Jawahar Lal Nehru University on one side. Nelson Mandela road is one of the accident prone roads in New Delhi.

It is named after Nelson Mandela, the first post-apartheid President of South Africa and an important leader in the fight against apartheid.

The book profiles his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years spent in prison. Under the apartheid government, Mandela was regarded as a terrorist and jailed on the infamous Robben Island for his role as a leader of the then-outlawed African National Congress (ANC) and its armed wing the Umkhonto We Sizwe. He later achieved international recognition for his leadership as president in rebuilding the country's once segregationist society. The last chapters of the book describe his political ascension and his belief that the struggle still continued against apartheid in South Africa.

The presidency of Nelson Mandela began on 10 May 1994, when Nelson Mandela, an anti-apartheid activist, lawyer, and former political prisoner, was inaugurated as President of South Africa, and ended on 14 June 1999. He was the first non-White head of state in South African history, as well as the first to take office following the dismantling of the apartheid system and the introduction of full, multiracial democracy. Mandela was also the oldest head of state in South Africa's history, taking office at the age of seventy-five. His age was taken into consideration as part of his decision to not seek re-election in 1999.

Ismail Ahmed Cachalia (1908-2003), popularly known as Moulvi, was a South African political activist and a leader of Transvaal Indian Congress and the African National Congress. He was one of the leaders of the Indian Passive Resistance Campaign of 1946 and the Defiance Campaign in 1952. The Government of India awarded the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Shri in 1977.

Vasant Vihar metro station

The Vasant Vihar Metro Station is located on the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro. It was opened to public on 29 May 2018.
