New Party (Turkish : Yeni Parti) was a Turkish political party.

After Turgut Özal was elected as the President of Turkey, he resigned from the Motherland Party (ANAP) because of constitutional reasons. On 30 November 1992, he was replaced by Mesut Yılmaz. Next day, Yusuf Bozkurt Özal, Turgut Özal's younger brother, together with a group of deputies resigned from ANAP. [1] On 7 October 1993, Yusuf Bozkurt Özal founded the New Party. [2] However, in the general elections held on 24 December 1995, the party could receive only 0.13% of votes. [3] After this defeat, the party was merged to another party in 1997 November. [4]

General elections were held in Turkey on 6 November 1983, the first since 1977 after democratic rights were abandoned after the military coup of 1980. The National Security Council banned the previous political parties from participating, leading to the establishment of new parties. Turgut Özal's Motherland Party (ANAP) won a significant victory in this elections by gaining 45.14% of the votes. This victory was the starting point of a rapid change in the structure of the state and society in Turkey. Voter turnout was 92.3%.

Adnan Kahveci was a noted Turkish politician who served as a key advisor to Prime Minister Turgut Özal throughout the 1980s. He was one of the founders in 1983 of the Motherland Party (ANAP) led by Turgut Özal, and later a minister in Özal's government. He died in a car accident in 1993. Prior to his political career in Turkey, Kahveci had led a successful career as an electrical engineer and academic in the United States, having done his studies in Purdue University and having risen to become a professor at the University of Missouri.

The Özal family is a political family in Turkey, the most prominent member being Turgut Özal, the 8th President (1989–1993) and Prime Minister of Turkey (1983–1989). The family has been active in Turkish politics since the 1970s. Özal was a popular political figure in Turkey and founded the Motherland Party in 1983, which won the general elections of the same year. After his death in 1993, his son Ahmet Özal succeeded him as the de facto patriarch of the family.

Semra Özal was the 8th first lady of Turkey as the spouse of the 8th President of Turkey Turgut Özal. She was also the second lady of Turkey during her husband's prime ministry from 1983 to 1989. The couple has three children: Ahmet Özal, Zeynep Özal and Efe Özal. During the government of the Motherland Party (ANAP), she presided the Turkish Women Empowerment and Promotion Foundation, also known as the "Daisies" (Papatyalar). From 1991 to 1992, she was the head of the provincial organization of the Motherland Party (ANAP) in Istanbul. Her husband Turgut Özal died in 1993 while in office. Semra Özal lives in Istanbul.

The 17th Grand National Assembly of Turkey existed from 6 November 1983 to 29 November 1987. Actually there is one other parliament between the 16th parliament of Turkey and the 17th parliament of Turkey. However, the members of the chamber of deputies in 1981-83 term were appointed members rather than elected members and usually chamber of deputies is not included in the list of the parliaments in Turkey. There were 399 MPs in the parliament. Motherland Party (ANAP) held the majority. Populist Party (HP) and Nationalist Democracy Party (MDP) were the other parties. The parties of pre 1980 era were closed by the military rule of Coup d'état.

The 18th term of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey lasted from 29 November 1987 to 20 October 1991. There were 450 MPs in the parliament. Motherland Party (ANAP) held the majority. Social Democrat Populist Party (SHP) and True Path Party (DYP) were the other parties.

Korkut Özal was a Turkish engineer and politician. He was the brother of Turkish President Turgut Özal and Yusuf Bozkurt Özal. His cause of death in 2016 are respiratory and circulatory failure.
