The Supreme Court of Canada is the highest court in the judicial system of Canada. Legum Doctor (LL.D.) or,in English,Doctor of Laws,is a doctorate-level academic degree in law or an honorary degree,depending on the jurisdiction. The double “L”in the abbreviation refers to the early practice in the University of Cambridge to teach both canon law and civil law,with the double “L”itself indicating the plural,although Cambridge now gives the degree the name Doctor of Law in English. This contrasts with the practice of the University of Oxford,where the degree that survived from the Middle Ages is the DCL or Doctor of Civil Law (only).

He was also an arbitrator and former lecturer in law at the Universitéde Sherbrooke. Nadon was nominated by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to be a puisne justice of the Supreme Court of Canada in October 2013. Following controversy about the appointment,the federal government referred the constitutionality of the appointment to the Supreme Court of Canada. In their decision in Reference Re Supreme Court Act,ss 5 and 6,the Supreme Court quashed his appointment,concluding he did not meet the eligibility criteria provided in the Supreme Court Act.
The McGill Law Journal is a student-run legal publication at McGill University Faculty of Law in Montreal. It is a not-for-profit corporation independent of the Faculty and it is managed exclusively by students. The Journal also publishes the Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation and a series of podcasts since 2012.
Richard Wagner is a Canadian jurist serving as the 18th and current Chief Justice of Canada since 2017. He previously served as a puisne justice of the Quebec Court of Appeal (2011–2012) and of the Supreme Court of Canada (2012–2017). For several months in 2021,following Julie Payette's resignation as Canada's governor general,Wagner was the administrator of the government of Canada as well as chief justice.
Suzanne Côté is a puisne justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. She was nominated by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to replace retiring Justice Louis LeBel. Before her appointment to the Supreme Court,she was a partner at Osler,Hoskin &Harcourt LLP and previously Stikeman Elliott LLP in Montréal. She is the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court directly from private practice.
