Nkanu West

Nkanu West is a Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is situated in the town of Agbani.

Nkanu West Local Government Area is made up of Agbani, Akpugo, Akegbe Ugwu, Obuoffia, Umueze, Obe, Amodu, Ozalla and Amurri. Nkanu people are predominantly farmers and butchers. It has an area of 225 km2 and a population of 146,695 at the 2006 census.

He subsequently served as a People's Democratic Party (PDP) Senator for Enugu East Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011 and was re-elected in 2019.

Awgu LGA is bounded in the north by Udi and Nkanu West LGAs, in the west by Oji River LGA, Aninri LGA and Ivo LGA of Ebonyi State in the East and share border with umunneochi L.G.A of Abia State in the south. The name of the Traditional ruler is Egbeleli. The market is known as Orie Awgu.

Nomeh Unateze is a town in Nkanu-East local government area of Enugu state. It has a population of about ten thousand citizens. The town is bordered on the North by Ugbawka, on the north east by Mburubu, Oduma on the south east and Nenwe on the south west. Their main language is the Ibo language but up to 70% of its populace are educated. Nomeh is known for its agricultural produce, especially rice, yam, cassava, palm oil and various types of vegetables.

Aninri is a Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Ndeabo. The local government is about 233,723 inhabitants according to the projected population from 2006 census. Aninri is made up of five towns; Odume, Nenwe, Ndeabo, Mpu and Okpanku.

Ukobu is a village in Onicha Agu is a village in Nkanu East local government area of Enugu State in the south eastern region of Nigeria. The population, originally fishermen and farmers, is approximately 5,000 people.

The Waawa clan of Northern Igboland, also referred to as Ndi Waawa, Wawa People, are a unique sub-group of the Igbo people in Enugu and Ebonyi State, Nigeria, consisting of several communities, who all speak a unique dialect of Igbo called Waawa. The most notable among these are the Agbaja and Ngwo which consist of peoples between the wooded lands of Awka to the rocky valleys of Enugu. The Agbaja are made up of communities in present-day Ngwo clan, Udi, Ezeagu, Umulokpa, Igbo-Etiti, Oji River, greater Awgu, Odume, Ndiagbor, Nenwe, Mpu, Okpanku and Enugu East Local Government Areas. Other notable parts of the Waawa clan include Nkanu, Nsukka, Abia, Nike, Agbani, Owo, and other communities in Enugu State. The Waawa are most notably associated with Chief Onyeama's people from Eke, who was the paramount ruler of Agbaja in the early 20th century.

The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Enugu State will be held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Enugu State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.

The 2023 Nigerian presidential election in Enugu State was held on 25 February 2023 as part of the nationwide 2023 Nigerian presidential election to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. Other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, will also be held on the same date while state elections will be held two weeks afterward on 11 March.

Senator Kelvin Chukwu is a Nigerian politician of the Labour Party and Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District. The Labour Party nominated him as a replacement to his elder brother Oyibo Chukwu who was assassinated along Amechi town, three days before the 25 February presidential and National Assembly elections.

Oyibo Chukwu was a Nigerian lawyer and politician. He was a former chairman of Nigerian Bar Association in Enugu State. Chukwu of the Labour Party, though running against a current senator and a former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani of the PDP, was a leading candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District in the 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections. He was assassinated on 22 February 2023, just three days before the election.
