Nome Public Schools (NPS), also known as the Nome City School District, is the school district serving the city of Nome, Alaska. The district has one of the highest efficiencies in Western Alaska. The current superintendent of the district is Jamie Burgess. [1]

Nome is a city in the Nome Census Area in the Unorganized Borough of Alaska, United States. The city is located on the southern Seward Peninsula coast on Norton Sound of the Bering Sea. In 2016 the population was estimated at 3,797, a rise from the 3,598 recorded in the 2010 Census, up from 3,505 in 2000. Nome was incorporated on April 9, 1901, and was once the most-populous city in Alaska. Nome lies within the region of the Bering Straits Native Corporation, which is headquartered in Nome.

Though public schools have existed in Nome since 1902, the present-day school district exists mostly to fulfill the obligation that first-class cities in the Unorganized Borough have under state law to provide education and planning/zoning functions within their cities. As such, it is separate from the Bering Strait School District which serves the smaller communities of the surrounding area.

The Unorganized Borough is made up of the portions of the U.S. state of Alaska which are not contained in any of its 19 organized boroughs. It encompasses nearly half of Alaska's land area, 323,440 square miles (837,700 km2), an area larger than any other U.S. state, and larger than the land area of the smallest 16 states combined. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, it had a population of 81,803, which was 13% of the population of the state.

Bering Strait School District School district in northwestern Alaska, United States

Bering Strait School District (BSSD) is a school district in northwestern Alaska, United States, serving approximately 1,700 students in grades K-12 in fifteen isolated villages. All schools in the district serve students of all ages, and most classrooms are multi-age.

NPS oversees five schools: two traditional grade-based schools (one for elementary grades and one for junior and senior high school grades), plus a charter magnet school, a correspondence program and a school program located in Nome Youth Facility. These five schools have a total enrollment of approximately 720 students, with enrollment per school ranging from 15 to 375. [2]

Schools

Anvil City Science Academy also known as ACSA, is a charter school in Nome, Alaska that holds about 66 students from grades 5-8. The School expanded in 2015 to hold 66 students from the previous 44. The School was founded in 1997 by multiple teachers. It is currently staffed by three teachers and one principal/teacher. The current principal/teacher is Lisa Leeper. As of 2018 it holds 61 students. ACSA has a different school money every year. The school money is currently "Taters".

Nome-Beltz Junior/Senior High School is a middle and high-school in Nome, Alaska. It is located at the base of Anvil Mountain, close to the beginning of the Nome-Teller Highway. The mascot is the nanook, or polar bear. The school was named in 1965 after William Earnest Beltz (1912-1960), the first president of the Alaska Senate following statehood.

Virginia High School (Minnesota) high school in Minnesota

Virginia High School, home of the Blue Devils, educates students grades 7-12 in Virginia, Minnesota. It is a public high school with open enrollment located across from the Saint Louis County District Courthouse on scenic 5th Avenue. Virginia High School has a strong music department known for the Marching Blues, the school's marching band.And the A Capella choir directed by Matthew Krage. The high school also participates in Minnesota State High School League sports such as hockey, basketball, volleyball, tennis, football, track & field, cross country, baseball, swimming, golf, and soccer. Despite budget problems in the past decade due to declining enrollment, Virginia Secondary has had success in standardized state testing, graduation rates, and school pride. Enrollment has been at a slow decline for the last few decades but enrollment has been increasing in the lower grade levels, and open enrollment from neighboring districts has brought new students to the school. Students are unofficially divided into grades 7 & 8 and 9-12. The school day consists of 7 periods ranging from 51 to 52 minutes with 3 to 5 minutes passing time allowed. Other Wednesday, students get out of school an hour early to allow for faculty professional development meetings. Junior high students have a closed lunch period between 3rd and 4th hours while grades 9-12 enjoy an open lunch after 4th hour.

The Olathe Unified School District is one of the major school districts in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area and is one of the larger school districts in the state of Kansas. There are currently 30,145 students enrolled in the district, which currently operates 5 high schools, 10 middle schools, and 35 elementary schools, as well as a number of additional educational and support facilities.
