Nora Fischer is a soprano singer. Her new album, HUSH, furthers her reputation as someone who breaks conventional musical genre barriers. [1]
Nora Fischer attended conservatory in Amsterdam, but was "kicked out [...] after a single semester," because she didn't like the "typical classical way of singing." [2] She studied musicology and philosophy at the University of Amsterdam, then studied music at the Complete Vocal Institute in Copenhagen, and later earned a Master's degree in New Audiences and Innovative Practice at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, in the Netherlands. Nora Fischer has performed with many world-class orchestras and ensembles, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Kronos Quartet, Asko/Schönberg Ensemble, the Dutch National Opera, Stargaze [4] and l’Arpeggiata, and in venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. She performs regularly with Yo-Yo Ma's Silkroad. [5]
In 2017/2018, Nora Fischer undertook a 15-date tour as part of the ECHO Rising Stars [6] scheme.
Nora Fischer sings music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods to contemporary music, and she has worked with a number of contemporary composers, including Steve Reich, David Lang, Michel van der Aa, and Nico Muhly. Louis Andriessen and Osvaldo Golijov have written works for her.
She has recorded several albums including The Secret Diary of Nora Plain, featuring music composed by Morris Kliphuis, on Excelsior Recordings in 2017; she also participated in a recording of works by her father, composer/conductor Iván Fischer: Iván Fischer: Composer’s Portrait, on Channel Classics in 2016. She signed with Universal Music in September, 2017, [7] and subsequently released HUSH on Deutsche Grammophon, with guitarist Marnix Dorrestein, which is a modern take on songs by Monteverdi, Purcell, Dowland, and others, for soprano and electric guitar.
Composer Louis Andriessen wrote for her the song cycle The Only One, first performed on 2 May 2019 at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles by Fischer with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. The British premiere was at the Royal Albert Hall during the 2019 BBC Proms on 8 September 2019, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sakari Oramo. [8]
Louis Joseph Andriessen was a Dutch composer, pianist and academic teacher. Considered the most influential Dutch composer of his generation, he was a central proponent of The Hague school of composition. Although his music was initially dominated by neoclassicism and serialism, his style gradually shifted to a synthesis of American minimalism, jazz and the manner of Stravinsky.

Missy Mazzoli is an American composer and pianist who is a member of the composition faculty at the Mannes College of Music. She has received critical acclaim for her chamber, orchestral and operatic work. In 2018 she became one of the first two women to receive a commission from the Metropolitan Opera House. She is the founder and keyboardist for Victoire, an electro-acoustic band dedicated to performing her music. From 2012-2015 she was composer-in-residence at Opera Philadelphia, in collaboration with Gotham Chamber Opera and Music-Theater Group. Her music is published by G. Schirmer. Mazzoli received a 2015 Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists Award, a Fulbright Grant to the Netherlands, and in 2018 was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Classical Composition. In 2018, Mazzoli was named for a two-season term as the Mead Composer-in-Residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Requiem is a composition for solo baritone, children's choir, chorus, and orchestra by the American composer Christopher Rouse. The piece was commissioned by Soli Deo Gloria for the 2003 bicentennial of the birth of French composer Hector Berlioz. It was completed July 12, 2002 and premiered March 25, 2007 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, with the conductor Grant Gershon leading the Los Angeles Master Chorale and their orchestra, the Los Angeles Children's Chorus, and the baritone Sanford Sylvan.

Brandon Patrick George is an American flutist. He studied at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with Michel Debost, in Paris with Sophie Cherrier, and received a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music. He was appointed flutist of Imani Winds in 2018, succeeding founder Valerie Coleman. Brandon has appeared as a soloist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Albany Symphony Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, and with the Orchestra of St. Luke's chamber ensembles. Prior to his work as a solo and chamber musician, Brandon performed as a guest with American orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the International Contemporary Ensemble. A Resident Artist with Imani Winds at the Mannes School of Music at The New School, Brandon is on the faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music. He plays the Verne Q. Powell platinum flute made for the 1939 World's Fair, which was previously owned by William Kincaid, and displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Musical Instrument Collection. Brandon's album of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Pierre Boulez, Kalevi Aho, and Sergei Prokofiev was released by Hänssler Classics in September 2020. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
