Meghalaya is a state in northeast India. Meghalaya was formed on 21 January 1972 by carving out two districts from the state of Assam: (a) the United Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills and (b) the Garo Hills. The estimated population of Meghalaya in 2014 was 3,211,474. Meghalaya covers an area of approximately 22,429 square kilometres, with a length-to-breadth ratio of about 3:1.

Rangdajied United Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Mawngap-Mawphlang, in the south-west of Shillong, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya. The club was founded in 1987, and participated in I-League 2nd Division. They won the league in 2012–13 season.
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, locally known as Polo Ground, is a football stadium in Shillong, in the Indian state of Meghalaya. It has most notably hosted the home matches of Shillong Lajong FC in the I-League. The stadium has a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators.
The National People's Party is a national-level political party in India, though its influence is mostly concentrated in the state of Meghalaya. The party was founded by P. A. Sangma after his expulsion from the NCP in July 2012. It was accorded national party status on 7 June 2019. It is the first political party from Northeastern India to have attained this status.
Royal Wahingdoh FC was an Indian professional football club based in Shillong, Meghalaya. Nicknamed "Royals", the club participated in I-League, then top flight of Indian football league system. Royal Wahingdoh holds the record for the highest number of consecutive Shillong Premier League titles, having won the finals in December 2010, 2011 and in 2012.
The Shillong Premier League is the second-level state-level football league in the Indian state of Meghalaya, below the top-tier Meghalaya State League, organised by the Shillong Sports Association (SSA), which is affiliated to the Meghalaya Football Association (MFA). It was started with 8 teams in 2010. Mawlai SC are the current champions.

The North-East Democratic Alliance is a political coalition that was formed on May 24, 2016, by Bharatiya Janata Party. The motive of the new political front was to protect the interest of the people of the region as well as uniting non-Congress parties in Northeast India. Himanta Biswa Sarma was appointed as the convenor of the front.
Rejaul Karim Laskar is an Indian politician and scholar of India's foreign policy. He is a former Congress ideologue and has written extensively on the policies of the United Progressive Alliance governments. He is also an eminent scholar of India's foreign policy and diplomacy with his scholarly work having been recognized as constituting a "a major contribution to contemporary diplomatic history" of India.
The Laskar Committee was a one-man Committee which was constituted by the Chairman of the Minority Department of All India Congress Committee (AICC) in October 2016 to formulate and suggest a strategy to attract Christians, Muslims, Buddhists and other religious minorities belonging to the North East region of India towards the Indian National Congress party. The committee was headed by a Congress ideologue and prominent author and scholar from the Northeast Indian state Assam Rejaul Karim Laskar.
Northeast Derby is the name given to the football matches played among the northeastern I-League teams Shillong Lajong, Aizawl, TRAU and NEROCA. Shillong Lajong was first promoted in 2009–10 season, followed by Aizawl in 2015-16 season, NEROCA and TRAU in 2017-18 and 2019–20 respectively.
North Shillong is one of the 60 Legislative Assembly constituencies of Meghalaya state in India. It is part of East Khasi Hills district and is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes. It falls under Shillong Lok Sabha constituency. The seat had been vacant following the resignation of Adelbert Nongrum, formerly of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on 12 January 2023. Nongrum won the seat again following the 2023 Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election.
The Manipur Olympic Games 2022, also known as the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games, is a multi-sport event, held in Manipur, Northeast India. The previous event, which was also the first event, was organised in the year 1988. After a long gap of 34 years, the 2nd edition of the Manipur Olympic Games was organised in the year 2022.
The Meghalaya Games are a sports event held in Meghalaya, India which were started in 2001. After a long break, the event was revived in 2019, and is to be held annually from 2024 onwards.
The 2022 North East Olympic Games were the second edition of the tournament. Over 3,000 athletes participated in 18 Olympic disciplines.
