The district was formed from 42nd (East Lancashire) Infantry Division as part of the Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve in 1967. [1] It had its headquarters at Cuerden Hall, and was placed under the command of HQ UK Land Forces in 1972. [2] In 1991, the first of the minor districts to be amalgamated were North West District, the former West Midlands District (by then Western District) and Wales, to form a new Wales and Western District. [3]

48th (South Midland) Division

The 48th Division was an infantry division of the British Army. Part of the Territorial Force (TF) and raised in 1908, the division was originally called the South Midland Division, and was redesignated as the 48th Division in 1915. During the First World War, the division saw service on the Western Front before being transferred to the Italian Front in November 1917 and remaining there for the rest of the war.

Copthorne Barracks was a British Army military installation in Copthorne, a suburb of Shrewsbury in Shropshire, England.

Geoffrey Michael Chater Robinson, is an English television and film actor and poet. He was born in Barnet, Hertfordshire. His first role was as "Constable" in Master Cook and Magnificence. He also had a minor role in a British TV serial Brideshead Revisited where he played a role of British Consul. As of 2017, Chater was still giving poetry readings.

Land Command was a military command and part of the structure of the British Army from 1995 to 2008. Its headquarters was at Erskine Barracks, at Fugglestone St Peter, some four kilometres northwest of Salisbury in Wiltshire.

South-Eastern District was a district command of the British Army from the mid-19th century until 1903. It was in existence again between 1967 and 1995.

Major General Raymond Matthew Dumuje (rtd.) OFR, fss, mni, psc, BEM was a Nigerian Army officer and businessman. He became the first Quartermaster general of the Nigerian Army. On 13 February 1976, as a colonel, he was shot and wounded in Ikoyi, Lagos during the failed "Dimka coup" attempt that saw the assassination of the then Military President, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed. The history of the Nigerian Armed forces records this particular event as a mistaken identity for Lt-General Olusegun Obasanjo, the then Chief of Staff of the Nigerian Army. He was one of very few to have served both in the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force. He was also a prominent indigene of the Udu clan in Delta state. He retired as the Director General, Nigerian Army, Army Reserve and Recruitment, in January 1984.

South West District was a district command of the British Army between 1967 and 1995.
