"Number Nine" is a song by South Korean girl group T-ara, from their eighth extended play Again . The song was written and composed by Shinsadong Tiger and Choi Gyu-sung. "Number Nine" was released as the lead single from the album on 10 October 2013. [1] The song was released in Japanese with "Kioku: Kimi ga Kureta Michishirube" (記憶: 君がくれた道標, Memories: You Gave Me Guidance) the theme song to the film Jinx!!! starring member Hyomin. [2] The single was released on 20 November 2013, through EMI Records Japan.

Contents

Background and release

On 15 September, Core Contents Media revealed that T-ara will make their comeback on 10 October 2013. The song was said to have a "stronger sound", but still remain catchy. On 26 September 2013, T-ara released a 30 second teaser video, filmed in a desert. On 1 October, T-ara released another teaser for "Number Nine" on their official website. In their black-and-white teaser, they used an "upgraded mature beauty". [1]

The music video along with the album was released on 10 October 2013, and the drama version was released on 16 October 2013. [3] "Number 9" is an electro-pop dance song with sad lyrics and melody. It was choreographed by Yama & Hotchicks, who also choreographed "Bo Peep Bo Peep".The song features a gentle guitar melody, coupled with an "unexpected intense sound". It was co-composed by Sinsadong Tiger and Choi Gyu Sung. "T-ara Party Non-Stop Remix" by DJ Takao Fukushima is composed of ten songs spanning 45 minutes: "Bo Peep Bo Peep", "Yayaya", "Lovey-Dovey", "Roly-Poly", "Waeroni", "Bye Bye", "Like The First Time", "Target", "Bunny Style!" and "Deja-Vu". The single was released in four different types: two CD+DVD limited editions that come in a special paper jacket, a regular edition, and a X-mas edition that comes with a remix album and a DVD, packaged in a box with six "T-ara Santa Ver." rubber key holders. All editions of the single come with a trading card with a serial code, chosen randomly out of seven types. [5]

Reception

After its release, "Number Nine" reached number five on the Gaon Weekly Digital Chart [6] and number 4 on Billboard's K-pop Hot 100. [7] In China, the song topped YinYueTai's both Korean and official charts. The second version video also peaked within top five on the chart. [8]

SBS PopAsia named the song number 7 in their list of 9 best T-ara singles. [9]

Promotions

The first time the song was revealed was on 6 October 2013 when performed at "Hallyu Dream Concert". T-ara had their first televised performance of "Number Nine" on Mnet's M! Countdown on 10 October. This was followed by additional performances on music programs including Music Bank, Show! Music Core and Inkigayo .

"Number 9" has appeared in the 6th episode of KBS's 2013 drama Secret Love, where Jo Min-joo (played by Song Min-kyung) works out in the gym playing the song. In 2014, the song was played and perfromed by Han Tae-hee (played by Jung Da-bin) in KBS1's daily drama Melody of Love.

"Bo Peep Bo Peep" is a song by South Korean girl group T-ara. It is the first lead track from the album Absolute First Album, the other being "Like The First Time" (Korean: 처음처럼). The song won 5 weekly number one awards on KBS Music Bank and SBS Inkigayo. It was later re-recorded in Japanese for the group's debut single, which was released on September 28, 2011. They are the first Korean group to debut at the number one spot in both Oricon's weekly chart and Billboard Japan Hot 100. The single has sold a total of more than 91,343 copies to date and was certified Gold for a shipment of over 100,000 paid downloads by the RIAJ.

"Roly-Poly" is a song by South Korean girl group T-ara. It was taken from their second mini album John Travolta Wannabe which was released on 29 June 2011. "Roly-Poly" won three weekly music program awards on M Countdown and Inkigayo. Only a month after release, the song accumulated over US$2.3 million in digital sales with over $280,000 per day. Lee Ho-yang, known professionally as Shinsadong Tiger, was a South Korean music producer and songwriter. After debuting in 2001 at the age of 18, he still worked several odd jobs to fund his music career. He was a prominent figure in the Korean pop music industry and is responsible for a number of popular songs. In 2010, he was named the "New Generation Producer" at the 18th Korean Culture Entertainment Awards, and in 2011, he was named one of the most influential figures in the South Korean music industry by OSEN. Lee also started his own label, AB Entertainment, in which he debuted his own girl group, EXID.

Jewelry Box is the second studio album and first Japanese release by the South-Korean girl group T-ara. The album was a commercial success peaking at 2 on the official Oricon weekly albums and receiving a Gold certification from RIAJ. A tour was held starting from July 2012 to promote the album which attracted 40,000 spectators.

"Lovey-Dovey" is a song by South Korean girl group T-ara from their fourth extended play Black Eyes (2011) repackage, Funky Town (2012). It was released as the lead single on January 3, 2012. A thirty-second teaser of "Lovey-Dovey" was unveiled at the end of their "Cry Cry" music video, with a full one-minute teaser released on November 30, 2011.

Lyrically the song tells about the pain and grief felt by the protagonist after being betrayed by a loved one. "Talk That" received generally positive reviews from critics, most of whom had praised the song for its mature musical style and concept as opposed to their previous singles.

Jeon Won Diary is the debut extended play (EP) by South Korean girl group T-ara N4, a sub-unit of T-ara. It was released on April 29, 2013, and was promoted by the lead single of the same name. The song was written and produced by Duble Sidekick, with additional arrangement by Hwang Ho-jin. It features a guest verse from Speed's rapper, Woo Tae-woon. Musically, "Jeon Won Diary" is a dance-pop song with elements of hip-hop, while the lyrics are about wanting to escape from the day-to-day routine.

Treasure Box is the third studio album and second Japanese release by South Korean idol group T-ara. It was released on August 7, 2013, as their first album release under Universal Music Japan sublabel EMI Records Japan in two limited editions and a regular edition. <i>Jinx!!!</i> 2013 Japanese film

Jinx!!!Jinksu!!! (ジンクス!!!) is a 2013 Japanese romantic comedy film starring T-ara's Park Hyomin, Kento Yamazaki and Kurumi Shimizu. It was the first Japanese film starring a South Korean Idol. The film premiered at the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival on October 20, 2013, making it the first Japanese movie starring a foreign actress to do so. It also received a nomination at the 14th Nippon Connection Film Festival in Frankfurt, Germany. The film was pre-sold to multiple East Asian countries including South Korea, Hong Kong ,and Taiwan.
