The O Music Awards (commonly abbreviated as the OMAs) [1] is an awards show presented by MTV to honor music, technology and intersection between the two. [2] The 1st O Music Award ceremony was held on April 28, 2011 on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas. [3] The 3rd O Music Awards was held on June 27, 2012. The O Music Awards brand continues year-round through a combination of a music and tech blog, called 'The O Music Blog', and a New York–based live events' series called 'Unboxed, which features music, tech, art, and interactivity. Past winners include Spotify (Best Music Hosting App), [5] Bjork (Digital Genius Award), [6] Way Out West (Most Innovative Festival), [7] Crowd Juke (Best Music Hack) [8] and Lady Gaga (A Must-Follow Artist On Twitter and an Innovative Artist). [9] The show has also featured up-and-coming acts like Foster The People [10] and Alabama Shakes, [11] as well as having many icons like The Flaming Lips [12] and Robyn. [13]

Running in tandem with the awards and performances, O Music Awards has achieved 3 Guinness World Records. During the inaugural O Music Awards in Las Vegas in April 2011, rapper Chiddy of Chiddy Bang received Guinness World Records titles for the Longest Freestyle Rap and the Longest Marathon Rapping record after rapping for 9 hours, 16 minutes and 22 seconds. [14] For O Music Awards 2, the show took on the goal of the Longest Team Dance Marathon. [15] A group of 13 dancers assembled at LA’s famed club The Roxy on Halloween Eve to take on the record. 24 hours later, all 13 dancers were still standing and had broken the record. The effort also raised more than $32,000 to fight bullying, with the money being divided equally between the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN), the It Gets Better Project, the Gay Straight Alliance Network (GSA), Human Rights Campaign (HRC), Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), and The Trevor Project. She studied at Collaborative Arts Project 21, through the New York University Tisch School of the Arts, before dropping out to pursue a career in music. After Def Jam Recordings canceled her contract, she worked as a songwriter for Sony/ATV Music Publishing, where she signed a joint deal with Interscope Records and KonLive Distribution, in 2007. Gaga had her breakthrough the following year with her debut studio album, The Fame, and its chart-topping singles "Just Dance" and "Poker Face". A crunk song, it consists of simple lyrics and hidden innuendos. The lyrics refer to putting up a sexy display to be recorded on a video phone. The song was released as the eighth single from I Am... Sasha Fierce on September 22, 2009, with its remix featuring Lady Gaga being released on November 17.

Richard "Richy" Jackson is an American dancer, creative director, and choreographer from the San Francisco Bay Area best known for his work with Lady Gaga. Jackson has a lifelong interest in dance, and after seeing school friend Aaliyah on television, he left Tuskegee University in 1999 and moved to Los Angeles to pursue dance as a career.

The 2013 YouTube Music Awards, abbreviated as the YTMA, was the inaugural music award show presented by YouTube. The inaugural award show was held on November 3, 2013, streamed live from Pier 36 in New York City, with additional shows in Seoul, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, and London.
