Oli Ahmad (born 30 September 1941) [1] is a Bangladeshi politician. He is a former minister and a member of Jatiya Sangsad. He is a former Bangladesh Army officer. He is a former Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and currently president of the Liberal Democratic Party of Bangladesh.
Ahmad was the first Bengali Military officer to revolt against the Pakistani army on 25 March 1971 before the start of the Bangladesh Liberation War. He was the first officer to be awarded the Bir Bikrom for his bravery during that war. He fought under Major Ziaur Rahman in Sector No. 1. Ahmad is highly regarded as one of the key founding members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). On 26 October 2006,Ahmad and several other senior leaders of the BNP defected to form the Liberal Democratic Party. [2] [3] At present he is serving as the president of Liberal Democratic Party. [4] While performing as Chief Coordinator for 20 Party Alliance,Ahmad launched a new movement called "Jatiya Mukti Mancha" on 27 June 2019. [5] [6]

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a major political party in Bangladesh. It was founded on 1 September 1978 by the late Bangladeshi president Ziaur Rahman,after the presidential election of 1978,with a view of uniting people with a nationalist ideology. Following Rahman's assassination in 1981,his widow,Khaleda Zia,took over leadership of the party and presided as chairperson until her imprisonment,in 2018. Since then,Tarique Rahman,the son of Rahman and Zia,has served as acting chairperson and has run the affairs of the party from London.
