P. K. Parameswaran Nair (1903-1988) was a biographer, critic, essayist and literary historian. He wrote a history of Malayalam literature. [1] He is also known for writing a biography of Mahatma Gandhi. [2]

Works

Parameswaran Nair established himself as a biographer, critic, essayist and literary historian. His biographies on C. V. Raman Pillai and 'Sahithyapanchananan' stand out as literary masterpieces in Malayalam and his definitive biography of Mahatma Gandhi is a classic by itself. He has written on Voltaire, Napoleon and a host of similar great personalities. His 'History of Malayalam Literature' published by Kendra Sahithya Academy had been translated into almost all the major Indian languages besides English. He has a number of essays and critical studies collected together in about half a dozen volumes. A staunch Gandhian in words and deeds he did yeoman service to propagate Gandhian ideals among the masses and was closely associated with the 'Kerala Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi' in its several activities particularly in the publication of the seven volume 'Selected writings of Gandhiji'.

Memory

A trust named Parameswaran Nair Smaraka Trust was formed in 1991 in his memory. The Trust has gone from strength to strength over its last Twenty Eight years of inception giving Parameswaran Nair Smaraka award to best biographer in Malayalam literature and Professor Guptan Nair Smaraka award to best critique in Malayalam literature on 25 November every year. It is a matter of pride that the memory of P K Paramewaran Nair lives through generations. This is largely due to simplicity and selfless attitude personified by the great man and the P K Parameswaran Nair Smaraka trust which has strived to preserve the ideals upheld by this man of letters.

Thinakkal Padmanabhan, popularly known as T. Padmanabhan, is an Indian short story writer of Malayalam literature. G. Ramachandhran was a soldier for the Gandhian cause, social reformer and a teacher. With his wife, Dr. T. S. Soundram, daughter of T V Sundaram Iyengar, founder of TVS Group, he started the Gandhigram, Tamil Nadu in 1945. He authored several books. Viswabharati, Rabindranath Tagore's University, in Santhiniketan awarded him the higher title "Desikottama".

M. K. Sanu Indian writer (born 1928)

M. K. Sanu is a Malayali writer, critic, retired professor, biographer, journalist, orator, social activist, and human rights activist. He is a prominent literary figure who has authored over thirty-six books. He is a permanent member of the International Body for Human Rights, as well as the founding member of the Mithram, a school for the mentally handicapped, in Mulanthuruthy, Ernakulam District, Kerala. He was a member of the award selection committee of the Vayalar Rama Varma Literary Award; however, he resigned in September 2019. In 2011, he won the Padmaprabha Literary Award.

S. Guptan Nair Indian scholar

S. Guptan Nair was an Indian scholar, academic, critic and writer of Malayalam literature. Known for his literary works as well as for his oratorical skills, Nair was a prolific writer with over 35 books to his credit. He was a distinguished fellow of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi and a recipient of several honours including Kendra Sahitya Academy Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, Vallathol Award and Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the last one being the highest literary award of the Government of Kerala.

V. Madhusoodanan Nair Indian Malayalam writer (born 1949)

V. Madhusoodanan Nair is an Indian poet and critic of Malayalam literature, who is credited with contributions in popularizing poetry through recitation. He is best known for Naranathu Bhranthan, the poem with the most editions in Malayalam literature as well as his music albums featuring recitations of his own poems and poems of other major poets. Kerala Sahitya Akademi honoured him with their annual award for poetry in 1993. He is also a recipient many other honours including Sahitya Akademi Award, Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram, Padmaprabha Literary Award, Kunju Pillai Award, R. G. Mangalom Award, Souparnikatheeram Prathibhapuraskaram and Janmashtami Puraskaram.

George Onakkoor Indian novelist (born 1941)

George Onakkoor is an Indian novelist who writes in Malayalam language. He was a Malayalam professor for over three decades at Mar Ivanios College, Trivandrum, Kerala.

The film depicts the problem of alcoholism through the determined efforts of a young girl to save her father from self-destruction. Puthencavu Mathan Tharakan

K. Kumar Indian orator and reformer

K. Kumar (1894–1973) was an Indian orator, reformer and writer of the Indian pre-independence era. He was one of the earliest socio-political leaders to have brought Gandhi's message and the spirit of the national movement to the erstwhile Travancore State. A gifted translator, he traveled with Gandhi during his Kerala tours, interpreting his English speeches in Malayalam. He was also an Advisor to the Nehru government. Padmanabha Pillai Gopinathan Nair is an Indian social worker, Gandhian, independence activist and the chairman of Mahatma Gandhi National Memorial Trust, popularly known as Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, a trust managed by the Government of India. He participated in the Quit India movement of 1942 and worked alongside Vinoba Bhave to promote Bhoodan and Gramdan movements. He is the initiator of the camp movement, a student program, as a part of the Construction Movement of Mahatma Gandhi. He is a recipient of the Jamnalal Bajaj Award, among other honors. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2016, for his contributions to society.

Samaldas Arts College or Samaldas College is a college in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, India. It was founded in 1885 by Takhtsinhji, the Maharaja of Bhavnagar State in memory of his Diwan (minister) Samaldas Paramananddas Mehta. It is one of the oldest colleges in western India. Iyyamcode Sreedharan is a Malayalam language writer from Kerala, India. He is well known in various fields of literature such as travelogue writer, Aattakkatha writer, playwright, poet and biographer. He received several awards including Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for travelogue, Kerala Kalamandalam Mukundaraja Award and Kerala Kalamandalam Award for outstanding contribution in the field of literature.
