Paganicons is the debut EP of punk band Saccharine Trust, released on December 10, 1981 through SST.
Inspired by Minutemen, [2] Saccharine Trust desired to make an album that experimented with different forms of rock. [2] Guitarist Joe Baiza considered music "a conceptual art project". [2]
Joe Baiza initially submitted the art for New Alliance Records' compilation Cracks in the Sidewalk but it was rejected by Mike Watt so Baiza used it for Paganicons instead. [1]

In Journals , Kurt Cobain of Nirvana ranked Paganicons as his ninth favorite record. [4] [5] [6] AllMusic critic John Dougan was less enthusiastic, criticising vocalist Jack Brewer's performance as "especially irritating and pretentious", though further writing that "there are indications that there's an interesting band here, especially in the abrasive guitar playing of Joe Baiza." [3]

A supergroup of SST alumni that mixed jazz and hard rock mainly as an instrumental vehicle, the band included Chuck Dukowski on bass and vocals, Greg Ginn on guitar, Greg Cameron (SWA) on drums, Joe Baiza on guitar, and Tom Troccoli on blues harp and vocals. Saccharine Trust is an American punk rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1980 by singer Jack Brewer and guitarist Joe Baiza. The band would frequently perform with SST labelmates Minutemen and Black Flag. However, Baiza described Saccharine Trust as the "black sheep" of the SST roster. Drummer Rob Holzman appeared on their 1981 debut Paganicons but left the band to play in Slovenly, replaced by drummer Tony Cicero. After a ten-year hiatus circa 1986 to 1996, the band re-formed and began performing around the West Coast.

Minutemen were an American punk rock band formed in San Pedro, California, in 1980. Composed of guitarist/vocalist D. Boon, bassist/vocalist Mike Watt, and drummer George Hurley, Minutemen recorded four albums and eight EPs before Boon's death in an automobile accident in 1985; the band broke up shortly thereafter. They were noted in the California punk community for a philosophy of "jamming econo"—a sense of thriftiness reflected in their touring and short, tight songs as well as their eclectic style drawing on hardcore punk, funk, jazz, and other sources.
Surviving You, Always is the second album and first LP by post-hardcore band Saccharine Trust, released in 1984 through SST. Guitarist Joe Baiza was exploring Jazz at the time at the influence was reflected on the album. Much of the lyrical content contains biblical imagery. The album features a cover of "Peace Frog" by The Doors a song repeated on Saccharine Trust's live compilation Past Lives.

Earl Liberty is an American punk rock bass guitarist, known for playing bass for Saccharine Trust from 1980–82, playing on the South Bay/San Pedro-based band's 1981 debut album, Paganicons, and participating in touring with SST labelmates Black Flag. His stage name was coined when Minutemen's D. Boon declared "Jesus Christ, you're fucking huge! You're as big as the Statue of Liberty!" which was then wedded to his earlier nickname of "Earl."

Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie: Reinterpreting Black Flag is a tribute album to the then-defunct American hardcore punk band Black Flag featuring ex-band members Dez Cadena, Keith Morris and Kira Roessler. They are joined by fellow SST label mates Joe Baiza and Mike Watt (Minutemen) as well as Jimmy Destri of Blondie, produced by Evan Taylor.
