The Pakistan Media Awards, commonly known as The PMA, are a set of awards given annually for radio, TV, film, and theatre achievements. The award is a statuette representing a knight with a star on the chest. Its official name is the Pakistan Media Award of Merit.
The awards were first given in 2010. PMA focuses on media achievements including all the occupations that come under media. In the television category, awards are awarded in talk shows, news channels, reality programs, dramas, sitcoms, daily soaps, and the fashion industry. Awards also acknowledge the efforts of artists in films, radio, and especially the theatre industry, which the PMA endeavor to revive through this platform.
The 3rd Pakistan Media Awards were held on 30 November 2012 at Expo Centre in Karachi, Sindh. Previously the 4th Pakistan Media Awards were scheduled on 28 December 2013, but due to overwhelming amounts of online votings and persistent requests of voters, the ceremony was rescheduled for 11 January 2014 at the Expo Center, Karachi. The first formal ceremony was held on 7th April 2010 at Karachi Carlton Hotel. Awards were presented in four categories: TV, Film, Radio and Theatre. Organizer and C.E.O of PMA Arshad Siddiqui said that the purpose behind the event was to re-live the Pakistani film industry. He said though he and other private sector were trying to play their level best the cold behavior of government was quite illogical. [3]
The 1st Pakistan Media Awards was held in 2010. [4] 2nd Pakistan Media Awards was held on 7 May 2011 at Carlton Hotel, Karachi. Awards hosts were Faisal Qureshi and Aijaz Aslam., [5] The 3rd Pakistan Media Awards was held on 30 November 2012 in Karachi. [6]
Pakistan Media Award representing a knight having Star on chest standing on a film reel, it is designed and manufacture by, Triple-E PVT. Limited. PMA statuette has a resemblance with American film award named as Oscar or Academy Award, which also represents a knight holding a sword standing on film reel. The PMA statuette having stars represents the excellent achievements of winners and artist awarded that year.
Since 2010, every year voting generates into two types:
in viewer's choices award some popular categories set to open for public voting and awarded that categories upon highest votes by public but the others is opposite and completely voted and viewed by Jury panel. as of 1st Pakistan Media Awards, multiple categories from Film, TV, Radio and theatre were set to open for public voting, for 2nd Pakistan Media Awards collective voting for all categories was 100,000 in history of Pakistan and rest of awards were completely judges and jury based.
The 3rd and upcoming 4th Pakistan Media Awards, rescheduled due to high demand of voting time for the categories open for public, more than of deadline date of votings, Triple-E receives thousands request for extending the date of voting.
According to Rules of PMA, in film category, a film must open in the previous calendar year from 1 January to 31 December, in Pakistan to qualify, e.g.; if a movie released in 2010 and did not play its PMA-qualifying run in Pakistan will not be qualify for 2010 awards until its completes its screening to qualify for next ceremony. Film must be feature-length, defined as a minimum of 40 minutes, except for short subject awards, and it must exist either on a 35 mm film or 70 mm film print or in 24 frame/s or 48 frame/s progressive scan digital cinema format with native resolution not less than 1280x720.
For Television category, a Drama, soap, telefilm, teleserial, play or sitcom must be from previous year of the ceremony and must have its qualify run, for TV category it is not must that a Drama should have completed its running a drama, soap etc. can be nominated every year till it completes it finale season or final episode.
Radio and Theatre category are awarded according to the year-to-year achievements of the artist and personalities.
Pakistan Media Awards telecast recorded, mostly the ceremony held in late months of the year, but as of the current ceremony for the first time, ceremony was scheduled in last month of the year to honor the dramas and media achievements of 2012. Due to the extension of public poll nominations date, it is scheduled in early Jan 2014. For 4th Pakistan Media Awards the ceremony will be honored the cinematic year of 2012 and 2013 both.
Awards also hold a 45-minute pre-show or notoriously called red carpet, special host(s) interviewed VIPs or Celebrities who are nominated for that ceremony, this is also televised show, and telecast half an hour earlier from the show or one day prior to the show.
Pakistan Media Awards has pulled in a bigger haul when box-office hits are favored to win the Best Picture trophy, Best Television Serial trophy and in others respected categories, ceremony gained a huge attention in the 2nd Award Ceremony when Triple-E provide an exceptionally wide range of categories to be awarded.

Notes:
For the first and second ceremonies, the PMA was presented at Karachi Carlton Hotel in 2010 and 2011, respectively. The third ceremony awards were held at Expo Centre Karachi, where most of the country events are held. The expo center is also the scheduled venue for the upcoming 4th Pakistan Media Awards.

The Academy Awards, mainly known as the Oscars, are awards for artistic and technical merit for the film industry. The Daytime Emmy Awards, or Daytime Emmys, are part of the extensive range of Emmy Awards for artistic and technical merit for the American television industry. Bestowed by the New York-based National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), the Daytime Emmys are presented in recognition of excellence in American daytime television programming. The first ceremony was held in 1974, expanding what was originally a prime time-themed Emmy Award. Ceremonies generally are held in May or June.
The European Film Awards have been presented annually since 1988 by the European Film Academy to recognize excellence in European cinematic achievements. The awards are given in 19 categories, of which the most important is the Best Film. They are restricted to European cinema and European producers, directors and actors. The awards were officially also called the "Felix Awards" until 1997, in reference to the former award's trophy statuette, which was replaced by a feminine statuette.
The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, known as the AACTA Awards, are presented annually by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA). The Black Reel Awards, or BRAs, is an annual American awards ceremony hosted by the Foundation for the Augmentation of African-Americans in Film (FAAAF) to recognize excellence of African Americans, as well as the cinematic achievements of the African diaspora, in the global film industry, as assessed by the foundation’s voting membership. The various category winners are awarded a copy of a statuette, officially called the Black Reel Award. The awards, first presented in 2000 in Washington, DC, are overseen by FAAAF.
The Lux Style Awards is an award ceremony held annually in Pakistan since 2002. The ceremony celebrates "style" in the Pakistani entertainment industry, such as cinema, television, fashion, music and film industry. Categories have changed over the years, but most are awarded by panels of judges who are experts in the respective industries, with some "people's choice" awards in the film and TV categories.
The Nigar Awards were presented in an annual award show to recognize outstanding achievement in Pakistani cinema. The honors are awarded by Nigar Magazine founded in 1948. The Nigar Awards are Pakistan's version of the Academy Awards.
A Magritte Award is an accolade presented by the Académie André Delvaux of Belgium to recognize cinematic achievement in the film industry. Modelled after the French César Award, the formal ceremony at which the awards are presented is one of the most prominent award ceremonies in Belgium. The various category winners are awarded a copy of a statuette. The awards, first presented in 2011, are considered the Belgian equivalent of the Academy Awards in the United States.
The Web Fest, are a set of awards given annually for excellence of internet achievements in the region of Former Yugoslavia. The Web Fest statuette is one of two types of Web Fest Awards. Organized and overseen by the Web Fest llc, the awards are given each year at a formal ceremony.
The 15th Lux Style Awards ceremony, presented by Lux to honor the best in fashion, music, films, and Pakistani television in 2015, took place on 29 July 2016 at Expo Center, Karachi, Sindh, beginning at 7:30 p.m. PST. During the ceremony, LUX presented the Lux Style Awards in four segments including Film, Fashion, Television, and Music. The ceremony was televised in Pakistan by Geo Entertainment and was produced by Lux Unilever Pakistan.
The 4thPakistan Media Awards were held to honor the best in film, television, radio and theater of 2013 in Pakistan. This time the ceremony honored the cinematic achievements of 2013 and 2012. The ceremony was scheduled for 28 December 2013, but, due to overwhelming response from the public on online votings for the public poll of selected online nominations and high demand of public to extend the voting days for nominations, the ceremony was rescheduled for 11 January 2014 at the Expo Center in Karachi, Sindh. Awards was hosted by Shamoon Abbasi and Faisal Qureshi.
The 2nd Hum Awards ceremony, presented by the Hum Television Network and Entertainment Channel (HTNEC), sponsored by Servis and Telenor Talkshawlk, honored the best in fashion, music and Hum Television Dramas of 2013. The ceremony took place on 29 March 2014 at Expo Center in Karachi, Sindh beginning at 7:30 PST. The ceremony was recorded and was broadcast on 25 May 2014. During the ceremony, Hum Television Network and Entertainment Channel presented awards in 29 regular categories along with 2 in honorary and 1 in special category. The ceremony was televised in Pakistan by Hum TV, while Servis returned as a main sponsor of the show.
Hum Awards are annual Pakistani accolades bestowed by the Hum Network Limited in recognition of excellence in programming of television, fashion and music industry of Pakistan. The ARY Film Awards, commonly known as The AFA's, is an annual Pakistani awards ceremony honoring the cinematic achievements of film industry. Winners are awarded the golden statue, officially the ARY Film Award of Merit, that is much often known as an AFA trophy. The awards, first presented in 2014 at Golf Club, Karachi, are overseen and organized by ARY Digital Network and Entertainment Channel. ARY Film Awards became an electoral race to the trophy to best film in any category, as per being the first awarding ceremony of reboot era of Pakistani Film Industry. ARY Film Awards are the first film awarding ceremony after the demolishing of Pakistani oldest awarding ceremony Nigar Awards.
The Hum Award for Best Drama Serial Viewers Choice or Popular is one of the Hum Awards of Merit presented annually by the Hum Television Network and Entertainment Channel (HTNEC) to producers working in the drama industry. Best Drama Serial Viewers Choice/Popular is considered the most important of the Hum Awards, as it represents all the directing, acting, music composing, writing, editing and other efforts put forth into a drama. The nominations are selected by Hum membership as a whole while winners are selected by Online voting of Public thus called Viewers Choice or Popular. This category is the equivalent to the Hum Award for Best Drama Serial - Jury, decide by Hum membership and selected panel of Jury by Hum.
The 3rd Hum Awards ceremony, presented by the Hum Television Network and Entertainment Channel (HTNEC), sponsored by Servis and Telenor, honored the best in fashion, music and Hum Television Dramas of 2014 and took place on 9 April 2015, at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai, UAE at 8:30 p.m. UAE Standard Time and was televised on 23 May at 7:30 p.m. PST. During the ceremony, HTNEC presented Hum Awards in 25 categories along with 3 in honorary and 2 in special categories. The ceremony, televised in Pakistan by Hum TV, was produced and directed by Nazeer Saeed Janjua while executive produced by Maimona Siddiqui.
The 4th Hum Awards ceremony, presented by the Hum Television Network and Entertainment Channel (HTNEC), sponsored by Servis, honored the best in fashion, music and Hum Television Dramas of 2015. It took place on April 23, 2016, at the Expo Centre in Karachi, Sindh, beginning at 7:30 p.m. PST. During the ceremony, HTNEC presented Hum Awards in 25 categories. The ceremony was televised in Pakistan by Hum TV on May 28, 2016.
