Lexington is a city in Kentucky,United States,and the county seat of Fayette County. By population,it is the 2nd most populous city in Kentucky after Louisville and 60th-most populous city in the United States. By land area,it is the country's 28th-largest city. The city is also known as "Horse Capital of the World". It is within the state's Bluegrass region. Wallace Glenn Wilkinson was an American businessman and politician from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. From 1987 to 1991,he served as the state's 57th governor. Wilkinson dropped out of college at the University of Kentucky in 1962 to attend to a book retail business he started. The business rapidly became a national success,and Wilkinson re-invested his profits in real estate,farming,transportation,banking,coal,and construction ventures,becoming extremely wealthy. In 1987,he joined a crowded field in the Democratic gubernatorial primary. After running behind two former governors and the sitting lieutenant governor for most of the race,Wilkinson began to climb in the polls after hiring then-unknown campaign consultant James Carville. Wilkinson campaigned on a promise of no new taxes and advocated a state lottery as an alternative means of raising money for the state. Wilkinson surprised most political observers by winning the primary and going on to defeat his Republican challenger in the general election.
Madeline (Madge) McDowell Breckinridge was an American leader of the women's suffrage movement in Kentucky. She married Desha Breckinridge,editor of the Lexington Herald,which advocated women's rights,and she lived to see the women of Kentucky vote for the first time in the presidential election of 1920. She also initiated progressive reforms for compulsory school attendance and child labor. She founded many civic organizations,notably the Kentucky Association for the Prevention and Treatment of Tuberculosis,an affliction from which she had personally suffered. She led efforts to implement model schools for children and adults,parks and recreation facilities,and manual training programs.
Man o' War Boulevard,named after the racehorse Man o' War,is an almost 17-mile (27 km) urban arterial,circling Lexington,Kentucky to its south. Its western terminus is at US 60 / Keeneland Boulevard at Keeneland Race Course's main entrance,from which the highway heads southeast,intersecting with US 68,US 27,and other roads. It then turns east and northeast,intersecting KY 1974,US 25/US 421,and I-75,before ending at US 60 at Brighton. The majority of the road is a four-lane divided highway with curbs and sidewalks maintained by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government,but the 1.429-mile (2.300 km) portion east of I-75 is maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as Supplemental Road Kentucky Route 1425,and only carries two lanes.

Bryan Station High School,founded in 1958,is a high school within the Fayette County Public Schools system in Lexington,Kentucky,United States. During the 2006–2007 school year,students were moved to their newly built school known as Bryan Station High. The school was named for Bryan Station,an 18th-century pioneer settlement. The school's sports teams are called the Defenders,and the school mascot is the "Mean Man";the school says "His persona reflects the heritage of the pioneers at the siege of Bryan Station Fort between the British and Indians in 1782."

James P. Gray II is an American politician who is the Kentucky Secretary of Transportation in the administration of Governor Andy Beshear. He is the former mayor of Lexington,Kentucky from 2011 to 2019. Gray served as the city's vice-mayor from 2006 to 2010 before being elected mayor in November 2010. Gray won re-election to another four-year term on November 4,2014. In 2016,he ran for the United States Senate seat held by U.S. Senator Rand Paul. Gray won the May 17 Democratic primary with nearly 60% of the vote but lost the November 8 general election to Paul. Gray was Chairman and CEO of Gray Construction,an engineering,design,and construction company headquartered in Lexington. Once elected,he took an advisory role as Chair of the Board of Directors to focus on his role as mayor.
The 1991 Kentucky gubernatorial election took place on November 5,1991. Incumbent Governor Wallace Wilkinson was not eligible to seek a second term due to term limits established by the Kentucky Constitution,creating an open seat. At the time,Kentucky was one of two states,along with Virginia,which prohibited its governors from serving immediate successive terms. The Democratic nominee,Lieutenant Governor Brereton Jones,defeated Republican nominee and U.S. Congressman Larry J. Hopkins to win a term as governor.
