Patricio Manuel (born Patricia Manuel; July 22, 1985), nicknamed "Cacahuate", [1] is an American professional boxer. In 2018, he became the first transgender boxer to fight professionally in the United States. [2] [3]
He made his professional debut on a Golden Boy Promotions event on December 8, 2018 in Indio, California, scoring a four-round unanimous decision victory over Hugo Aguilar, with all three judges scoring the bout 39–37. [4] Aguilar only knew of Manuel's transition two days prior to the bout. He stated "For me it's very respectable ... It doesn't change anything for me. In the ring he wants to win and I want to win too." [5]
In May 2019, Manuel was a keynote speaker at the launch event for the San Francisco 49ers LGBTQ+ and allies fan club, held at Levi's Stadium. [6]
In September 2019, Manuel became the new face of Everlast boxing equipment. [7]
In March 2023, Manuel won his second professional bout against Hien Huynh by technical decision (cut caused by a headclash). [8]
In June 2023, Manuel participated in Golden Boy Fight Night where he won by unanimous decision against Alexander Gutierrez. [1]
In April 2024, Manuel participated again in Golden Boy Fight Night and was knocked out (TKO) 21 seconds into the first round by opponent Joshua Reyes.
He identified as a man after being a five-time national amateur champion, as well as competing in the 2012 Women's U.S. Olympic Trials. Manuel was eliminated from those trials after being forced to withdraw due to a shoulder injury. He began his transition with hormone treatments in 2013, and he had top surgery in Salt Lake City in 2014. [9]
Manuel's mother, who raised him as a single parent with the help of his grandmother and uncles, is Irish American. His father is African American. [10] He now lives with his partner and their pit bull dog, Ginkgo. [11]

Oscar De La Hoya is an American boxing promoter and former professional boxer who competed from 1992 to 2008. His accolades include winning 11 world titles in six weight classes, including the lineal championship in three weight classes. De La Hoya was nicknamed "The Golden Boy of boxing" by the media when he represented the United States at the 1992 Summer Olympics where, shortly after having graduated from James A. Garfield High School, he won a gold medal in the lightweight division, and reportedly "set a sport back on its feet."

Lou Savarese is an American former professional boxer and mixed martial artist who competed 1989 to 2013. He is from Greenwood Lake, New York. On April 26, 1997, he challenged for the Lineal Heavyweight Championship, and lost by a controversial split decision to the Lineal World Heavyweight Champion George Foreman. A year later on June 25, 1998, Savarese won the IBA World Heavyweight title against former Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion Buster Douglas by way of a first-round knockout. On June 24, 2000, he lost by a first-round technical knockout to former Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson. On September 22, 2002, Savarese won the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight title, by way of a fifth-round TKO against former two-time World Heavyweight Champion Tim Witherspoon. On June 30, 2007, Savarese fought former four-time World Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield. He fought with great heart but lost by unanimous decision to a sharp looking Holyfield. Savarese announced after the fight that he had given it his all but it wasn't good enough, and this would be his last bout.
