Hong Kong is a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China. With 7.4 million residents of various nationalities in a 1,104-square-kilometre (426 sq mi) territory,Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated territories in the world.
The New Territories is one of the three main regions of Hong Kong,alongside Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. It makes up 86.2% of Hong Kong's territory,and contains around half of the population of Hong Kong. Historically,it is the region described in the Convention for the Extension of Hong Kong Territory. According to that treaty,the territories comprise the mainland area north of Boundary Street on the Kowloon Peninsula and south of the Sham Chun River,as well as over 200 outlying islands,including Lantau Island,Lamma Island,Cheung Chau,and Peng Chau in the territory of Hong Kong.
The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) is a pro-Beijing conservative political party registered since 1992 in Hong Kong. Chaired by Gary Chan and holding 13 Legislative Council seats,it is currently the largest party in the legislature and in terms of membership,far ahead of other parties. It has been a key supporting force to the SAR administration and the central government's policies on Hong Kong.
The City of Victoria,often called Victoria City or simply Victoria (維城),was the de facto capital of Hong Kong during its time as a British dependent territory. It was initially named Queenstown but was soon known as Victoria. It was one of the first urban settlements in Hong Kong and its boundaries are recorded in the Laws of Hong Kong. All government bureaux and many key departments still have their head offices located within its limit.
Citizens Party was a small pro-democracy political party existed in Hong Kong from 1997 to 2008. It was founded by Legislative Council member Christine Loh in May 1997.
Sin Chung-kai is a former member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council. He was the chairman and a member of Kwai Tsing District Council for the Wah Lai constituency. He was one of the two vice-chairmen of the Democratic Party until December 2012,and now serves as a member of the Executive Committee.
Sir Kai Ho,CMG,JP,MRCS,better known as Sir Kai Ho Kai,born Ho Shan-kai,was a Hong Kong barrister,physician and essayist in Colonial Hong Kong. He played a key role in the relationship between the Hong Kong local community and the British colonial government. He is remembered as a supporter of the Reform Movement and as a teacher of Sun Yat-sen,who would become the founding father of the Republic of China. Kai Tak Airport,Hong Kong,was named after him and his son-in-law Au Tak,though he died in 1914,long before the idea of an aerodrome was first mentioned in 1925.
Lai Yiu Estate is a public housing estate in Lai King,Kwai Chung,New Territories,Hong Kong. It is located near Central Kwai Chung Park and Castle Peak Road. It is located at the north mid-level of Lai King Estate and it consists of five residential buildings completed in 1976,1977 and 1999 respectively.
Tin Chung Court is a Home Ownership Scheme court developed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority in Tin Shui Wai,New Territories,Hong Kong,near Tin Wah Estate,Light Rail Chestwood stop and Tin Shui Wai Park. It comprises 15 residential blocks completed in 1999 and 2002 respectively.
Hong Kong was a British colony and later a British Dependent Territory from 1841 to 1997,apart from a period of Japanese occupation from 1941 to 1945 during the Pacific War. The colonial period began with the British occupation of Hong Kong Island in 1841,during the First Opium War between the British and the Qing dynasty. The Qing had wanted to enforce its prohibition of opium importation within the dynasty that was being exported mostly from British India and was causing widespread addiction among the populace.
Sham Chung is a Hakka village and an area of Neolithic settlement in Hong Kong. It is located in the south of Tolo Channel,beside Three Fathoms Cove on the Sai Kung Peninsula. Administratively,it is part of Tai Po District.

The 2016 Hong Kong Legislative Council election was held on 4 September 2016 for the 6th Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo). A total of 70 members,35 from geographical constituencies (GCs) and 35 from functional constituencies (FCs),were returned. The election came after the rejection of the 2016/2017 constitutional reform proposals which suggested the electoral method for the 2016 Legislative Council remains unchanged.
Localist groups or localist and self-determination groups refers to the various groups with localist ideologies in Hong Kong. It emerged from post-80s social movements in the late 2000s which centred on the preservation of the city's autonomy and local lifestyles and opposed the perceived growing encroachment of the Chinese government on the city's management of its own political,economic,and social affairs.
The Sixth Legislative Council of Hong Kong was the sixth meeting of the legislative branch of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. Running from 1 October 2016 to 31 December 2021,it was the longest legislative session in Hong Kong history,lasted for five years and three months. The term of the session was originally from 1 October 2016 to 30 September 2020,but was extended by the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) due to the postponement of the 2020 Legislative Council election.
The Hong Kong Legislative Council members' oath-taking controversy was a series of events surrounding the oaths of office of a dozen pro-democracy and localist camp members-elect of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo) on 12 October 2016 which have resulted in the disqualification of six members,Sixtus "Baggio" Leung and Yau Wai-ching of Youngspiration,who were unseated by the court on 15 November 2016,and Leung Kwok-hung,Nathan Law,Yiu Chung-yim and Lau Siu-lai on 14 July 2017.
The 1894 Hong Kong plague,part of the third plague pandemic,was a major outbreak of the bubonic plague in Hong Kong. While the plague was harshest in 1894,it returned annually between 1895 and 1929,and killed over 20,000 in total,with a fatality rate of more than 93%. The plague was a major turning point in the history of colonial Hong Kong,as it forced the colonial government to reexamine its policy towards the Chinese community,and invest in the wellbeing of the Chinese.
On 11 November 2020,15 Hong Kong pro-democracy members of the Legislative Council announced their resignations in protest against the decision of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) which bars Legislative Council members from supporting Hong Kong independence,refusing to recognise Beijing's sovereignty over Hong Kong,seeking help from "foreign countries or foreign forces to interfere in the affairs of the region" or committing "other acts that endanger national security" that resulted in the disqualification of pro-democracy legislators Alvin Yeung,Dennis Kwok,Kwok Ka-ki and Kenneth Leung. In July 2020,the four had been barred from running in the subsequently postponed Legislative Council election originally scheduled for September 2020. The resignation en masse left the Legislative Council membership dwindled to 43 out of the total number of 70 seats,with virtually no opposition for the first time since the 1997 handover.
The Public Offices Ordinance 2021 is an ordinance to amend the Oaths and Declarations Ordinance and other relating legislation which adds new requirements for the Chief Executive,Executive Council members,Legislative Council members and judges and other judicial officers,imposes oath-taking requirements on District Council members,and specifies requirements for candidates to swear to uphold the Basic Law and bear allegiance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region when assuming office or standing for election and also adds new grounds and mechanism for disqualification from holding the office or being nominated as a candidate. The ordinance was seen as another round of the Beijing authorities to bar the opposition from standing in elections or holding public offices and also raised concerns on the bill's vague parameters of the oath with such over-reaching scope would undermine Hong Kong's judicial independence.
