Peel Green is a suburb at the western end of Eccles, Greater Manchester, England, in the historic county of Lancashire.
Peel Green is split by the M60 motorway, which runs north–south through its centre. It is served by the following bus services: Cadishead/Manchester 67, Warrington/Trafford Centre/Manchester 100, Brookhouse/Manchester 10 and Brookhouse/Piccadilly 63.
Until the 1980s Peel Green was dominated by heavy industry, with engine builder L Gardner & Sons on Hardy Street and the Regent Tyre and Rubber Co, (a subsidiary of Dunlop Tyres) at the Enterprise Works on the corner of Green Street and Clifford Street. [1] These are now closed. With the loss of its industrial base, Peel Green is seeking new types of investment to aid in the renewal of the area.
During 2003, the Brookhouse Estate saw curfews imposed on under 16s, a substantial police presence and a security camera erected outside the local shops in Brookhouse Avenue in an effort to tackle crime rate. [2] Salford City Academy, formerly Canon Williamson Church of England High School (and before this Eccles C.E High School), is on the Brookhouse Estate. After substantial redevelopment, the school opened as an academy in September 2006. [3] The school's specialisms are sport and business and enterprise. A separate sixth form centre opened in September 2007 at a cost of £1.8 million. [4] Other schools in the area include St Patrick's Roman Catholic High School.
Along with Westwood Park in Winton, the Peel Green area houses much of Eccles' council and housing association stock. The medium-sized Brookhouse Estate is at the western end of Peel Green and many other council homes are located in the Haddon Road and Higher Croft areas in the centre of Peel Green. New properties have recently been built, the latest addition being on Gorton Street at the end of 2004.
Recreation Grounds (known officially as Patricroft Recreation Ground, but not in Patricroft) and large playing fields alongside Worsley Brook between Schofield Road and the M60 motorway. Peel Green has been home to Eccles Rugby Union Club since 1948 and Barton Hall Cricket Club formerly played in here. Peel Green has been the home of Eccles Archery Club since it was founded in 1953.
Salford is a city and the core settlement of the wider City of Salford metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester, England. In 2011, Salford had a population of 103,886. It is also the second and only other city in the county after neighbouring Manchester. Salford is located in a meander of the River Irwell which forms part of its boundary with Manchester. The former County Borough of Salford, which also included Broughton, Pendleton and Kersal, was granted city status in 1926. In 1974 the wider Metropolitan Borough of the City of Salford was established with responsibility for a significantly larger region.
The A57 is a major road in England. It runs east from Liverpool to Lincoln via Warrington, Cadishead, Irlam, Patricroft, Eccles, Salford and Manchester, then through the Pennines over the Snake Pass, around the Ladybower Reservoir, through Sheffield and past Worksop. Between Liverpool and Glossop, the road has largely been superseded by the M62, M602 and M67 motorways. Within Manchester a short stretch becomes the Mancunian Way, designated A57(M).
Irlam is a suburb in the City of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. In 2011, it had a population of 19,933. It lies on flat ground on the south side of the M62 motorway and the north bank of the Manchester Ship Canal, 6.7 miles (10.8 km) southwest of Salford, 7.6 miles (12.2 km) southwest of Manchester and 8.3 miles (13.4 km) northeast of Warrington. Irlam forms a continuous urban area with Cadishead to the southwest, and is divided from Flixton and the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford to the southeast by the Manchester Ship Canal. The main road through Irlam, linking it to Cadishead and Eccles, is the A57. Irlam railway station also serves the district.

Salford City Academy opened in 2006 after substantial redevelopment. The school is sponsored by United Learning, the largest multi academy trust in the UK. The academy was shortlisted for Secondary School of the Year for the National TES Awards in 2021, the principal Ms Melanie Haselden was also shortlisted for Headteacher of the Year in the same awards.
Monton Mill was a cotton spinning mill in Eccles, Greater Manchester, England, built in 1906. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930s and passed to Courtaulds in 1964. After production ended, it was demolished and replaced with housing; its name is preserved in the street name.
