Damion Hudson (born January 11, 1984), better known by his stage name Pennjamin Bannekar is an American independent music artist and songwriter.

Music career

Pennjamin Bannekar was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan but raised in Chicago, Penn as he is often called, discovered his love for music at an early age. Falling in love with the creative process and writing Penn decided to major in Communications and graduated from University of Illinois Champaign Urbana. College was where Penn began to grow as an artist and started to receive acclaim. Penn came back to Chicago and joined the group Project: Fr3sh. While in Project: Fr3sh Penn changed his name from Penn the God to Pennjamin Bannekar. Given the name by his friends as a joke, he began to love the meaning behind it and chose to use it as his stage name. After a 2-year run with the group Penn went solo and began to become the unsung hype of Chicago’s hip hop scene. His first solo project was his mixtape Hello World. The release of Hello World had many people clamoring for more [1] [2] [3] The success of Hello World set up the release of his first album HeartBeat. HeartBeat was released May 3, 2011. The first single from HeartBeat was ILLwrite. The single was a great introduction of who he was and was picked up by MTV [4] HeartBeat went on to Be named Album Of The Month by some critics [5] after landing write ups in the Chicago Tribune and touring with Dwele [6] Elzhi [7] Bilal Oliver [8] KRS-One [9] <Penn’s success started to materialize. "Homecoming" is a song by American hip-hop recording artist Kanye West. It was included as the twelfth song on his third studio album Graduation (2007). The track was produced by West with Warryn Campbell and features a guest appearance from Chris Martin, lead vocalist of the British alternative rock band Coldplay. Martin sings the song's chorus and outro and provides a piano-driven motif. The song is a hip hop beat with pop-oriented refrains while also integrating elements of post-punk and new wave with arena rock sensibilities. "Homecoming" is written as a tribute dedicated to West's hometown of Chicago, Illinois. His conceptual lyricism expresses an extended metaphor where he personifies Chicago as a childhood sweetheart to convey his relationship with the city.

Buraka Som Sistema was an electronic dance music project from Portugal, specializing in a fusion of techno beats with the African zouk and kuduro genre. It is generally credited with creating the "zouk bass" and "progressive kuduro" variant and has received an MTV European Music Award. In 2015 Buraka Som Sistema said they would be taking an hiatus starting in 2016, and on July 1st 2016 they performed live for the last time in Lisbon.

Founded in 2007, Mello Music has released hip hop compilations and albums by producers and rappers such as Oddisee, Apollo Brown, Mr. Lif, Ghostface Killah, Open Mike Eagle, L'Orange, Quelle Chris, Jean Grae, Kool Keith, Nottz, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Pete Rock, and Rapper Big Pooh. In 2012, MTV Hive described MMG as having a "dedication to intelligent, street-wise boom bap", although the label has released a number of purely instrumental albums as well. In 2016, Forbes magazine called Mello Music Group the most successful indie rap label of the decade.
