History

Staffline Group PLC, the UK's largest outsourced workforce provider, acquired PeoplePlus in 2015. The formation of PeoplePlus resulted from the merger of three companies previously owned by Staffline [2] : EOS (acquired in 2011) [3] [4] , Avanta (acquired in 2014) [5] [6] , and A4e(acquired in 2015) [7] . These companies were all major providers of work programs in the UK.

PeoplePlus further expanded its reach in 2018 by acquiring LearnDirect Apprenticeshipsapprenticeship, becoming the UK's [8] largest apprenticeship provider at the time. However, the apprenticeship provision was subsequently sold to Babington in 2020.

Employability

In England and Wales, PeoplePlus were the largest prime provider of DWP’s Work Programme[ citation needed ] before it ended in 2019. In 2018 they began delivering Fair Start Scotland in Glasgow and Highlands & Islands - a voluntary programme with support to develop soft skills and find sustainable employment. In England and Wales they deliver the DWP’s Restart Scheme on behalf of Reed in Kent and the North East, and Serco in Wales. The Restart Scheme aims to support people back into work as well as offering in-work support for up to twelve months. [9]

Justice

In 2019 PeoplePlus more than doubled its prison education services with additional contracts worth £100m, and now provide education services in 26 prisons in Britain. [10]

SWAP is administered by Jobcentre Plus and available in England and Scotland. A sector-based work academy can last for up to 6 weeks.

The Work Programme (WP) was a UK government welfare-to-work programme introduced in Great Britain in June 2011. It was the flagship welfare-to-work scheme of the 2010–2015 UK coalition government. Under the Work Programme the task of getting the long-term unemployed into work was outsourced to a range of public sector, private sector and third sector organisations. The scheme replaced a range of schemes which existed under previous New Labour governments including Employment Zones, New Deal, Flexible New Deal and the now abolished Future Jobs Fund scheme which aimed to tackle youth unemployment. Despite being the flagship welfare-to-work scheme of the Conservative-led coalition government, and then the incumbent Conservative government from May 2015, the DWP announced, in November 2015, that it was replacing the Work Programme and Work Choice with a new Work and Health Programme for the longer-term unemployed and those with health conditions. The DWP also announced that it would not be renewing Mandatory Work Activity and Help to Work which included Community Work Placements.
