The Perth International Comedy Festival is an Australian not-for-profit festival.

History

The PICF organizing committee was created in mid-2011 and went on to launch an inaugural festival in May 2012. [1] This festival was 19 days in length and was held in the Mt Lawley area of Perth, Western Australia, across four different venues. [2] 150 performances of an international, national and local calibre were presented to an audience of more than 26,000. 51 of the performances were sold out, and 82% of the total audience capacity was reached. Acts included Henry Rollins, Stephen K Amos, Steve Hughes, The Pajama Men, Des Bishop, Daniel Kitson, [3] Neil Hamburger, Peter Powers, Glenn Wool, DeAnne Smith, Tripod, Sammy J & Randy, Fiona O'Loughlin, Charlie Pickering, Tom Gleeson, Greg Fleet, Dave Callan, Brendon Burns, Felicity Ward, Lawrence Mooney, Asher Treleaven, Hannah Gadsby and Joel Creasey. The Festival Director and curator was Jo Marsh. [4]

In 2013 the festival was once more held in May, similarly for 19 days. Comedians included Diggy Bones, Daniel Sloss, Paul Foot and Gina Yashere. [5] [6]

The festival includes an Opening Gala with short performances from selected comedians. [7] [8] There is also musical entertainment. [9]

Perth Festival Australias longest running cultural festival

The Perth Festival is Australia's longest running cultural festival, held annually in Western Australia. The program features contemporary and classical music, dance, theatre, opera, visual arts, large-scale public works, Lotterywest Film Festival and the Perth Writers Festival. The festival runs every year from February to March, the Lotterywest Film Festival runs from November to April, and the Perth Writers Festival occurs in February. The artistic director for 2020 to 2023 will be Iain Grandage. As of 2019 the current executive director is Nathan Bennett.

Paul Foot (comedian) English comedian

DeAnne Smith is an award-winning Canadian-American comedian, writer and columnist. She first gained notice as a comedian in 2008 touring her debut full-length solo stand-up show to popular and critical acclaim, culminating in winning the Sydney Comedy Festival's Time Out Best Newcomer Award and a nomination for Best Newcomer in the 2008 Canadian Comedy Awards. Smith has since continued to tour internationally, with shows proving to be both commercial and critical successes. Her shows have seen Smith nominated for numerous awards, including the Melbourne Comedy Festival's prestigious Barry Award in 2011 and being consistently rated amongst Montreal's Top 10 comedians. In addition to her live solo shows, Smith is also known for appearances on television and radio, most notably on Australia's Good News Week on the Channel 10 network and HBO series Funny As Hell.

Fringe World Festival is an annual multi-arts fringe festival held in Perth, Western Australia during the city's summer festival season of January/February. Fringe World is recognised as the third largest Fringe in the world. The 2018 Festival recorded over 368,000 tickets sold, valued at $10.1 million and attendance at free and ticketed events was almost one million.

Aamer Rahman is an Australian stand-up comedian of Bangladeshi descent. He is best known as one half of comedy duo Fear of a Brown Planet, along with Nazeem Hussain.

Joel Creasey is an Australian stand-up comedian, actor and television presenter living in Melbourne. Creasey has performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as performing at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2013 and 2014 and the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015. Creasey is also known as "Australia's Acid Tongue Prince". Creasey is currently Australia's commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest alongside Myf Warhurst.

Busan International Comedy Festival

The Busan International Comedy Festival (BICF) (Korean: 부산국제코미디페스티벌) is an annual comedy festival and cultural event held in Busan, South Korea. Since its establishment in 2013, the festival takes place for four days in late August to early September every year. The BICF includes comedic performances and acts from around the world, featuring sketch shows and stand-up acts. The festival has since grown from its 2013 debut; South Korean teams such as KBS's Gag Concert, SBS's Searching for Laughs and tvN's Comedy Big League are joined by a variety of teams from many different countries, such as the United Kingdom, South Africa, Japan and Italy. The festival is the largest international comedy festival in Asia and the first in South Korea.

Harith Iskander bin Musa is a Malaysian actor and comedian. He is considered to be "the Godfather of Stand-Up Comedy" in Malaysia, having also won the Asia's Best Stand-Up Comedian Award 2014 by Top 10 of Asia Magazine.
