Major General Peter Maurice Arnison, AC , CVO (born 21 October 1940) is a retired Australian Army officer who served as the 23rd Governor of Queensland,in office from July 1997 until July 2003. He graduated from the Royal Military College,Duntroon in 1962,and served as Land Commander Australia from 1994 until he retired from the Australian Army in 1996.
For the year prior to his appointment as governor,Arnison was the executive director of Allied Rubber Products,a manufacturing firm. He is a former Chancellor of Queensland University of Technology, [1] and is Chairman of Panbio Limited, [2] Chairman of the Centre for Military and Veterans' Health,Director of Energex Limited, [3] Governor of the Queensland Community Foundation,and on the board of directors of the Australian Multicultural Foundation. Arnison is married to Barbara. [5]
Dame Marie Roslyn Bashir is the former and second longest-serving Governor of New South Wales. Born in Narrandera,New South Wales,Bashir graduated from the University of Sydney in 1956 and held various medical positions,with a particular emphasis in psychiatry. In 1993 Bashir was appointed the Clinical Director of Mental Health Services for the Central Sydney Area Health Service,a position she held until appointed governor on 1 March 2001. She has also served as the Chancellor of the University of Sydney (2007–2012). Bashir retired on 1 October 2014 and was succeeded as governor by General David Hurley.
