The Slovak Republic has been a member of European Union since 2004. Slovakia has been an active participant in U.S.- and NATO-led military actions. There is a joint Czech-Slovak peacekeeping force in Kosovo. After the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack on the United States, the government opened its airspace to coalition planes. In June 2002, Slovakia announced that they would send an engineering brigade to Afghanistan.
MŠK Žilina is a Slovak football club based in the town of Žilina, that is playing in the Slovak Superliga. Since the league inception in 1993, the club has won 7 titles and comes second in All-time table that makes them one of the most successful teams in the competition. The club and their supporters alike are nicknamed Šošoni and play their home games in the Štadión pod Dubňom. In the 2016–17 season, Žilina won the Slovak League.
Slovenská televízia was a state-owned public television organisation in Slovakia. It was created in 1991 as the Slovak part of the former Czechoslovak Television and was headquartered in Bratislava. It was funded from a combination of television licence fees, advertising, and government funding. It ceased to existed on 1 January 2011, when it was merged with the state-owned public radio organisation Slovenský rozhlas to create Rozhlas a televízia Slovenska.

Janko Kroner is a Slovak film, television and stage actor. Once a regular cast of the Slovak National Theater (SND) (1987–2009), Kroner began his acting career as part of the New Scene (1982–86). In the mid 1990s, alongside staging for his home theater, he gradually began appearing in a local VA-based ensemble called a.ha. In the most recent decade, he has been known as the frontman of the Malá scéna STU, a body supervised by Kroner through 2010-2011.
Panelák is a Slovak daily television series that aired from 2008 until 2017 on TV JOJ. In Slovak, panelák means "block of flats". The soap opera follows the lives of a group of people living in an apartment building.

Milan Zimnýkoval, known professionally as "Junior", is a Slovak television and radio presenter. He is the son of a soldier and his mother was a primary school teacher. For ten years he has danced in the Slovak folk dance group Zemplín. In June 2012 he married the television producer Antónia Gondová, who took on the married surname Zimnýkoval. They live together in Bratislava and raise their daughter Alexandra.
