Philip Gotsall Cox CBE (born 22 September 1951 in Birmingham) is the Chief Executive Officer of International Power, the energy company based in London, formed from National Power when Innogy de-merged from it in April 2000.

Early life

He attended Bishop Vesey's Grammar School in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. At Queens' College, Cambridge, he completed an MA in Geography.

Career

He joined Price Waterhouse in 1973 as a chartered accountant, moving to Lucas in 1977. From 1981 to 1988 he worked for small engineering and marketing companies. He was Chief Financial Officer at Siebe from 1988-99. In 1999 he became Senior Vice-President of Operational Planning at Invensys, in the same year that Invensys was formed from Siebe merging with BTR.

In May 2000 he became Chief Financial Officer at International Power when the company was formed, becoming CEO in December 2003 when David Crane left to join NRG Energy.

Cox was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to the energy industry. [1]

He subsequently took several non-executive and chair roles. [2]

Personal life

He is married with a son and daughter.

In January 2014 the company was taken over by the French multinational Schneider Electric for a total consideration of $5.5 billion. Schneider phased out the "Invensys" name in favour of its own.

Siebe Gorman British manufacturer of diving equipment and salvage contractor

Siebe Gorman & Company Ltd was a British company that developed diving equipment and breathing equipment and worked on commercial diving and marine salvage projects. The company advertised itself as 'Submarine Engineers'. It was founded by Augustus Siebe, a German-born British engineer chiefly known for his contributions to diving equipment.

Eurotherm British control and measurement instruments supplier

Eurotherm is a supplier of control and measurement instruments to industrial and process markets. They are part of Schneider Electric, an electricity distribution, automation management and producer of installation components for energy management company. Eurotherm manufacture at a number of locations in Europe and the USA.

Westinghouse Rail Systems Ltd was a British supplier of railway signalling and control equipment to the rail industry worldwide. Its head office was in Chippenham, Wiltshire, where it manufactured a variety of mechanical and electrical/electronic railway signalling equipment. Westinghouse Brake and Signal Company

The Westinghouse Brake & Signal Company Ltd was a manufacturer of railroad signs. Founded by George Westinghouse, it was registered as "Westinghouse Brake Company" in 1881. The company reorganised in 1920, associating with Evans O'Donnell, and Saxby and Farmer which merged to form the "Westinghouse Brake & Saxby Signal Company". The 'Saxby' would be dropped from their title in 1935.

Siebe plc became the name of the new conglomerate formed when Siebe Gorman began taking over other firms in the early 1970s, to distinguish it from Siebe Gorman's original breathing apparatus and diving gear core business. Siebe plc was once one of the United Kingdom's largest engineering businesses and was a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. In 1999 it merged with BTR plc to form Invensys.
