Air Marshal Philip Colin Osborn, CBE , FRAeS is a senior Royal Air Force officer who served as Chief of Defence Intelligence from 2015 to 2018.

RAF career

Osborn joined the Royal Air Force in 1982. [1] After training as a Tornado navigator, he became commanding officer of No. 13 Squadron and then Station Commander at RAF Marham. [1] He went on to be Air Officer Commanding No. 2 Group in October 2010, Chief of Staff Operations and Support at RAF Air Command in 2012 and Director Capability at Joint Forces Command in 2013. [1] He became Chief of Defence Intelligence in January 2015. [2]

Osborn was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2009 New Year Honours. [3] He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS). [4]

Osborn officially retired from the Royal Air Force on 13 October 2019. [5]

Later life

In retirement, Osborn maintained links with the Royal Air Force and became chairman of the RAF Charitable Trust in June 2020, [6] [7] and became a non-executive director for Lincolnshire-based defence company, Inzpire, in April 2020. [8]

In that role Torpy hosted the RAF's biggest air display in two decades, and argued for consolidation of all British air power in the hands of the RAF.

Air Chief Marshal Stuart William Peach, Baron Peach, is a British retired senior Royal Air Force officer. After training as a navigator, Peach commanded IX (Bomber) Squadron and then became Deputy Station Commander RAF Bruggen. He was deployed as NATO Air Commander (Forward) in Kosovo in 2000. He went on to be Chief of Defence Intelligence in 2006, Chief of Joint Operations in 2009 and the first Commander of Joint Forces Command in December 2011 before being appointed Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff in May 2013. Peach succeeded General Sir Nick Houghton as Chief of the Defence Staff on 14 July 2016. He succeeded General Petr Pavel as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee on 29 June 2018, serving as such until his retirement from NATO in June 2021.

Air Marshal Iain Walter McNicoll, is a retired Royal Air Force officer. He was formerly Deputy Commander-in-Chief Operations, RAF Air Command.

Air Marshal Sir Timothy Michael Anderson, is a retired senior Royal Air Force (RAF) officer. He served as the inaugural Director-General of the UK Military Aviation Authority (MAA) from 2010 to 2013. The MAA was established in response to the Haddon-Cave Review into the issues surrounding the loss of an RAF Nimrod over Afghanistan in September 2006. Earlier in his career, Anderson was a fast jet pilot, primarily flying the Tornado ground attack aircraft, and as Officer Commanding No. 14 Squadron led the United Kingdom's Tornado commitment to Operation Allied Force, the NATO air campaign over Kosovo in 1999, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He is currently Chairman of the UK Airspace Change Organising Group Steering Committee, overseeing a national infrastructure programme on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport and the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Alasdair McKay Sinclair Steedman, was a senior commander in the Royal Air Force.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Joseph Alfred Gilbert, is a former Royal Air Force officer who served as Deputy Commander of Strike Command from 1984 to 1986.

Air Marshal Sir Kevin James Leeson, is a retired Royal Air Force engineer officer, whose final appointment was as Chief of Materiel – Air at the Defence Equipment and Support organisation, concurrently holding the appointments of Air Member for Materiel on the Air Force Board and Chief Engineer (RAF), at which point he was the most senior non-aircrew officer in the service.
