Phophi Constance Ramathuba (born 15 August 1973) is a South African politician and medical doctor. She has been the Limpopo MEC (Member of the Executive Council) for Health and a Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since May 2015. Ramathuba is a member of the African National Congress.
Ramathuba was born on 15 August 1973 at Elim Hospital,Waterval and grew up in Mashamba,then part of South Africa's Transvaal Province. [1] [2] She is one of five children. She matriculated at Mbilwi Secondary School and studied at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (formerly known as MEDUNSA),where she obtained a bachelor of medicine and a bachelor of surgery degree. From the University of Pretoria,she received a master's degree in medical pharmacology. Ramathuba had also fulfilled courses in health and business leadership. [2]
Ramathuba started her career as an intern at the Mokopane Hospital. [2] Prior to being appointed to the Limpopo provincial government,she was the chief executive of the Voortrekker Hospital and the chairperson of the SA Medical Association. [3]
Ramathuba is a long-standing member of the African National Congress. She serves as a member of the party's provincial executive committee. On 27 May 2015,Ramathuba was sworn in as a member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature,representing the ANC. [3] On the same day,premier Stanley Mathabatha appointed her Member of the Executive Council for Health,succeeding Maaria Ishmael Kgetjepe. The changes came into effect immediately. [4] [5]
Ramathuba was re-elected to the provincial legislature in the 2019 Limpopo provincial election held on 8 May. On 22 May 2019,Mathabatha announced that she would remain as Health MEC. [6]
In January 2022,Ramathuba came under criticism for telling schoolgirls at the Gwenane Secondary School in Sekgakgapeng to "open your books and close your legs". [7] [8]
In August 2022 Ramathuba's remarks to a bed-ridden Zimbabwean patient in Bela-Bela,went viral. [9] On the video she accused foreigners of abusing state resources allocated to South African Nationals stating:“you are killing my health system. When you guys are sick you just cross the Limpopo River,there’s an MEC there who is running a charity department.” [10] Politicians such as EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and Mmusi Maimane criticized Ramathuba for humiliating the patient and called for the revocation of her medical licence. [11] Ramathuba is set to be the next Limpopo Premier after the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.
Ramathuba has two daughters. [2] On 1 July 2020,Mathabatha announced that Ramathuba had tested positive for COVID-19. [12]

In March 2020,Lerule-Ramakhanya was appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport and Community Safety. She was moved to the Education portfolio of the executive council in June 2022.

He was appointed Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development,Environment and Tourism shortly after his election. In October 2022,Mokone became MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development.

As of June 2022,she has been the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works,Roads and Infrastructure in the Limpopo provincial government. She previously served as the MEC for Social Development from May 2019 to June 2022. Rakgoale was elected to the Limpopo Provincial Legislature in May 2019. Before that,she served as the Executive Mayor of the Mopani District Municipality. Rakgoale is a member of the African National Congress.
Fulufhelo Florence Radzilani is a South African politician who is currently serving as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo province. She was formerly the executive mayor of Vhembe District Municipality from 2011 to 2012 and from 2016 to 2018. She resigned as mayor in December 2018 after being implicated in the corruption scandal at VBS Mutual Bank.

Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana is a South African politician who is currently serving as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sports,Arts and Culture in the Limpopo provincial government. She was appointed to that position in October 2022,shortly after she was elected Provincial Treasurer of the Limpopo branch of her political party,the African National Congress (ANC). She formerly served as a Member of the Executive Council (MEC) in Limpopo from 2014 to 2019,during the first full term of Premier Stan Mathabatha. She was MEC for Social Development from 2017 to 2019,MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development from 2016 to 2017,and MEC for Transport,Safety and Liaison from 2014 to 2016. She was also elected to four-year terms on the Limpopo ANC's Provincial Executive Committee in 2018 and 2022.
Bertha Amanda Joyce Matshoge,commonly known as Joy Matshoge,was a South African politician who served as Limpopo's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Agriculture and Rural Development from May 2014 until her death in June 2016. Before that,from 2013 to 2014,she was the Deputy Speaker of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature,where she had represented the African National Congress (ANC) since 2008. At the time of her death,she was also the Provincial Chairperson of the ANC Women's League in Limpopo,a position to which she had been elected in September 2015.
