Pillette Road Truck Assembly Plant was a Chrysler automobile factory in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The plant built the Dodge Ram Van and Dodge Ram Wagon from its opening in 1974 to its closing in 2003. [1] Total lifetime production was 2,309,399 units with a peak production of 124,124 in 1984. [2]

Chrysler is one of the "Big Three" automobile manufacturers in the United States, headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The original Chrysler Corporation was founded in 1925 by Walter Chrysler from the remains of the Maxwell Motor Company. In 1998, it was acquired by Daimler-Benz, and the holding company was renamed DaimlerChrysler. After Daimler divested Chrysler in 2007, the company existed as Chrysler LLC (2007–2009) and Chrysler Group LLC (2009–2014) before merging in 2014 with Italian holding company Fiat S.p.A. and becoming a subsidiary of its successor Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. In addition to the Chrysler brand, FCA sells vehicles worldwide under the Dodge, Jeep, and Ram nameplates. Furthermore, the subsidiary includes Mopar, its automotive parts and accessories division, and SRT, its performance automobile division.

Windsor, Ontario City in southwestern Ontario, Canada

Windsor is a city in southwestern Ontario, Canada, on the south bank of the Detroit River directly across from Detroit, Michigan. Located in Essex County, it is the southernmost city in Canada and marks the southwestern end of the Quebec City–Windsor Corridor. The city's population was 217,188 at the 2016 census, making it the third-most populated city in Southwestern Ontario, after London and Kitchener. Closing

As the full size van market declined, and Chrysler's share of the market shrunk, Chrysler discontinued the Ram Van and Wagon in 2003. Unable to secure a replacement product, the plant closed July 2003, despite a recently constructed paint shop building. The original assembly plant and adjacent paint shop building were subsequently demolished. [3]

Incorporated in 1925, the Chrysler Corporation of Canada gained complete control of a Maxwell-Chalmers plant in Windsor, Ontario that had been used to manufacture some Chrysler models in the previous year. In August 2007, the company was renamed Chrysler Canada Incorporated when Cerberus Capital Management purchased 80.1% of its parent company Chrysler LLC.

Chrysler minivans platform

The Chrysler minivans are a series of minivans that have been produced and marketed by the American automaker Chrysler. In production since the 1984 model year, Chrysler has produced six distinct generations of minivans; at various stages of their production, Chrysler minivans have been marketed worldwide, primarily in North America and Europe.

Chrysler LA engine

The LA engines are a family of pushrod OHV 90° V-configured gasoline engines built by Chrysler Corporation. It was factory-installed in passenger vehicles, trucks and vans, commercial vehicles, marine and industrial applications from 1964 through 2003. The combustion chambers are wedge-shaped, rather than the polyspherical combustion chambers in the predecessor A engine or the hemispherical combustion chambers in the Chrysler Hemi engine. All versions are made of cast iron, except for the Viper V10 which is aluminum. LA engines have the same 4.46 in (113 mm) bore spacing as the A engines. LA engines were made at Chrysler's Mound Road Engine plant in Detroit, Michigan, as well as plants in Canada and Mexico. The "LA" stands for "Light A", as the older "A" engine it was closely based on was nearly 50 pounds heavier. Willem Weertman, who later became Chief Engineer – Engine Design and Development, was in charge of the conversion. The basic design of the LA engine would go unchanged through the development of the "Magnum" upgrade (1992-1993) and into the 2000s with changes to enhance power and efficiency.

Plymouth Voyager car model 1991

Plymouth Voyager is a nameplate for a range of vans that were marketed by the Plymouth division of Chrysler. From 1974 to 1983, the Voyager was a full-size van, sold as the counterpart of Dodge Sportsman. For 1984, the Voyager became a Chrysler minivan sold alongside the Dodge Caravan; as a minivan, three generations of the Voyager were sold from 1984 to 2000. Following the closure of the Plymouth division in 2000, the Voyager was marketed under the Chrysler brand, where it was sold through 2003.

Ram Pickup pick-up truck

The Ram pickup is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by FCA US LLC and marketed as of 2011 onwards under the Ram Trucks brand. The current fifth-generation Ram debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan in January of that year.

Dodge Ram van van model mark

The Dodge B series was a range of full-size vans that were produced by Chrysler Corporation from 1970 to 2017. Through their production, the full-size vans were sold under several different nameplates. Most examples were sold by the Dodge division, although rebadged versions were sold by the now-defunct Fargo and Plymouth divisions. Despite many customer requests, the Dodge xyi was not available in the desired 360 V8 model until 1972.

Dodge D series car model

The D/W series was a line of pickup trucks that was sold by Dodge from 1961 to 1993. The same basic design was retained until the 1994 introduction of a completely redesigned Ram. The D/W series shared its AD platform with the Dodge Ramcharger/Plymouth Trail Duster twins. 4x2 models were designated D, while 4x4 models were designated W.

Toledo Complex American automobile factory

The Toledo Complex is an automobile factory in Toledo, Ohio. Now owned by Fiat Chrysler, sections of the facility have operated as an automobile assembly plant since 1910, originally for Willys-Overland vehicles. The Toledo complex has assembled Jeeps since the 1940s, and comprises two factories: Toledo North and Toledo South, which itself includes the Stickney Plant and the Parkway Annex.

Saint Louis Assembly was a Chrysler automobile factory in Fenton, Missouri. The "South" plant opened in 1959, while the "North" portion opened in 1966. Saint Louis North was the home of minivan production from 1987 through 1995, when it was converted to build the Dodge Ram pickup truck. Minivan production was switched to the South plant in 1995 and continued there through the 2007 model year.

Sterling Heights Assembly, or Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP), is an automobile manufacturing factory in Sterling Heights, Michigan currently operated by FCA US LLC.

Warren Truck Assembly is a Chrysler automobile factory in Warren, Michigan. The factory opened in 1938. The nearby Warren Stamping opened in 1949 and just south of Eight Mile Road, the Mound Road Engine plant opened in 1953. There also was once the nearby Sherwood Assembly that closed in the late 1970s when Chrysler halted production of the Dodge Medium and Heavy Duty trucks and exited the market. It was located on the southwest corner of 9 Mile Road and Sherwood, adjacent to the Warren Assembly site on the east.

Brampton Assembly is a Chrysler automobile factory located at 2000 Williams Parkway East Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Originally built by American Motors Corporation (AMC) for US$260 million, in what was then called Bramalea, Ontario township, the manufacturing plant was specially designed for building the Eagle Premier. Its role since has primarily been to assemble full-sized Chrysler products.

Windsor Assembly

Windsor Assembly is a FCA Canada automobile factory in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The factory opened in 1928 and started minivan production in 1983. Windsor Assembly is Windsor's largest employer with 6,108 employees.

The Warren Stamping Plant is a Chrysler automobile factory in Warren, Michigan. The factory was completed in 1948 and began production in 1949. The nearby Chrysler facilities os the Warren Truck Assembly and the Mack Engine Complex. The Mound Road Engine plant closed in the early 2000s; the site is now a vehicle storage lot. There also was once the nearby Sherwood Assembly that closed in the late 1970s when Chrysler halted production of the Dodge Medium and Heavy Duty trucks and exited the market. Sherwood Assembly has since been torn down.

The Volkswagen Routan is a seven-seat minivan and rebadged variant of the Chrysler RT platform, with revised styling, content features, and suspension tuning from the fifth-generation Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country.

Ram Trucks American brand of light to mid-weight commercial vehicles

Ram Trucks, stylized as RAM and formally known as the Ram Truck Division, is an American brand of light to mid-weight commercial vehicles established in 2010 as a division of FCA US LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Italian-American corporation Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. It was spun-off from Dodge marque, using the name of the Ram Pickup line of trucks. Ram Trucks' logo was originally used as Dodge's logo. Ram "Classic" are made at the Warren Truck Plant in Warren Michigan and at the Saltillo plant in Saltillo Mexico. New series Ram pickups are made at Sterling Heights Assembly in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Chrysler minivans (S)

The first-generation Chrysler minivans are a series of minivans produced and marketed by the Chrysler Corporation in North American and Europe from 1984 to 1990. Sold in both passenger and cargo configurations, the series is the first of six generations of Chrysler minivans. Launched ahead of chief competitors Chevrolet Astro/GMC Safari and Ford Aerostar, the first-generation Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager effectively created the modern minivan segment in North America, with many later North American minivans adopting a similar body configuration.
