The Planning and Development Act 2005 is an Act of the Western Australian Parliament which lays down specific controls over planning at a metropolitan and local level as well as establishing more general controls over the subdivision of land. The Act consolidated the Town Planning and Development Act 1928, Metropolitan Region Town Planning Scheme Act 1959 and the Western Australian Planning Commission Act 1985 into a single piece of legislation.

The Town Planning and Development Act 1928 was an Act of the Western Australian Parliament which laid down specific controls over planning at a metropolitan and local level as well as establishing more general controls over the subdivision of land. The Act was based on an earlier Canadian legislation. It took 13 years for the Act to pass through the parliament. The Act formed the basis of the planning system of Western Australia into the early 21st Century when the Act was repealed and replaced by the Planning and Development Act 2005.

Metropolitan Region Scheme

The Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS) is the legal land plan covering urban planning throughout the Perth Metropolitan Region. It classifies land into broad zones and reservations and is administered by the Western Australian Planning Commission.

The Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) is a statutory authority of the Government of Western Australia that exists to coordinate planning for future land use and transport needs. It describes itself as Western Australia's "peak representative body of land-use planning and development". Its main role is to coordinate the various government agencies and other stakeholders in large infrastructure projects, to ensure that consideration is given to all interests and needs, including environmental, economic and community interests. It operates within the purview of the Department of Planning, which is responsible to the Minister for Planning.

Highways in Australia are generally high capacity roads managed by state and territory government agencies, though Australia's federal government contributes funding for important links between capital cities and major regional centres. Prior to European settlement, the earliest needs for trade and travel were met by narrow bush tracks, used by tribes of Indigenous Australians. Supply roads leading to the north of the country were considered vital, resulting in the construction of Barkly, Stuart, and Eyre Highways.

The aim of the act is to facilitate the devolution of decision-making powers from central government control to individuals and communities. The measures affected by the Act include an increase in the number of elected mayors, referendums and the "Local authority’s general power of competence" which states "A local authority has power to do anything that individuals generally may do".

Public Transport Victoria is the trading name of the Public Transport Development Authority (PTDA), a statutory authority in the Australian state of Victoria responsible for providing, coordinating and promoting public transport. Sydney Region Outline Plan

The Sydney Region Outline Plan (SROP) was a land use and infrastructure scheme for metropolitan New South Wales released by the State Planning Authority in March 1968. The SROP superseded the 1948 County of Cumberland planning scheme. Whereas the Cumberland scheme echoed contemporary plans for London, the SROP adopted a Scandinavian model of town centres arranged along existing railway corridors.
