Pratim Biswas is currently the Dean of Engineering, University of Miami, since January 2021. He was the Lucy and Stanley Lopata Professor of Environmental Engineering Science, Asst. Vice Chancellor for International Programs, and Chair of the Department of Energy, Environmental and Chemical Engineering [1] at Washington University in St. Louis. He is also Director of MAGEEP, the McDonnell Academy Global Energy and Environmental Partnership. He received his doctoral degree from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena in 1985, and his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 1980. [2] He was elected to the United States National Academy of Engineering in 2019 "for advancing the science of aerosol dynamics and particle removal technologies." [3]

He has graduated and advised 60 PhD students, and with them published more than 450 refereed journal articles. He is one of the top aerosol research scientists in the world with one of the best and most well-equipped aerosol labs in the USA.

A key area of application of his work has been in the Energy and Environmental technology arena. [1]

Career

Biswas began his academic career on the faculty of the University of Cincinnati, where he rose through the ranks to become a full professor and director of the university's Environmental Engineering Science Division and also spent a one-year sabbatical at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. He moved to Washington University as the inaugural Stifel and Quinette Jens Professor in 2000. [2]

At Washington University he has assembled a strong group of aerosol researchers who collectively work on a range of topics in aerosol science and engineering. These faculty work in areas of aerosol science and technology ranging from particle formation, growth, transport, measurement, control and applications. From 2006 to 2007 he was a President of the American Association for Aerosol Research. [4] Dr. Biswas is the current President of the International Aerosol Research Assembly.

Currently, he is the Dean, College of Engineering, University of Miami; and Professor in the Department of Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering and Atmospheric Sciences (Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences). He has established a bold strategic vision for Miami Engineering

Kimberly A. Prather is an American atmospheric chemist. She is a distinguished chair in atmospheric chemistry and a distinguished professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and department of chemistry and biochemistry at UC San Diego. Her work focuses on how humans are influencing the atmosphere and climate. In 2019, she was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering for technologies that transformed understanding of aerosols and their impacts on air quality, climate, and human health. In 2020, she was elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences. She is also an elected Fellow of the American Philosophical Society, American Geophysical Union, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Philosophical Society, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Sonia Maria Kreidenweis is an American Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at Colorado State University. Her research considers aerosols and their impact on weather and the climate. She has previously served as President of the American Association for Aerosol Research and was a board member of the American Meteorological Society. She was elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union in 2019.

JoAnn Slama Lighty is an American chemical engineer who is a professor at Boise State University. Her research considers carbon capture, chemical looping and black carbon emissions. In 2020 she was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for her air quality research.

Christine Sharon Grant is an American chemical engineer who is the Associate Dean of Faculty Advancement at North Carolina State University. Her research considers surface and environmental science. She is the 2022 President of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jim Pfaendtner</span> American chemical engineer

Jim Pfaendtner is an American chemical engineer. He is currently serving as the Dean for the College of Engineering at NC State University. He was the Steve and Connie Rogel Professor and chair of chemical engineering and professor of chemistry at the University of Washington. He additionally served as the associate vice provost for research computing. Pfaendtner is also staff scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Beginning August 1, 2023, Pfaendtner will be the Louis Martin-Vega Dean of the college of engineering at North Carolina State University.
