Ahmad Balshe, known professionally as Belly, is a Palestinian-Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Born in Jenin in the Palestinian West Bank, and raised in Ottawa, Balshe embarked on a career as a musician when he was sixteen years old by playing drums in various Ottawa punk bands. At twenty-one years old, he moved on to his main love hip-hop with the release of his debut mixtape, Death Before Dishonor: Vol. 1. He then released eight additional projects in a span of six years, including his debut studio album The Revolution (2007), as well as two collaborative mixtapes, The Lost Tapes and The Greatest Dream I Never Had, with Kurupt and DJ Drama, respectively.

The 2007 MuchMusic Video Awards were held in Toronto, Ontario at MuchMusic's headquarters on June 17, 2007 and featured performances by Fergie, Maroon 5, The Used, Avril Lavigne, Finger Eleven, Hilary Duff, and others. The Revolution is the debut studio album by Canadian rapper, Belly which was released on June 5, 2007 in Canada on Capital Prophets Records Inc.. The album became a commercial success a month after its release, when it was certified gold by the CRIA for shipping over 50,000 copies. The lead single "Pressure" won Best MuchVibe video at the 2007 MuchMusic Video Awards and also peaked at #10 on the Canadian Singles Chart. Also the album won the Rap Recording of the Year at the 2008 Juno Awards. All videos for the singles received heavy rotation on Much Music. In April 2008 for the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards, "Ridin'" was nominated for 4 MMVAs and won 1 of them for best rap video.
